Cheaper College Tuition in The United States
On average, Americans spend 62.6 billion dollars on college tuition every year. On top of the money spent on tuition, the amount of student loan debt in the U.S. is increasing every year. In 2013 the student loan debt reached $1.2 trillion. There are several countries throughout the world that have cheaper tuition or even free tuition. The majority of countries with cheaper or free tuition have higher international test scores. By making tuition cheaper, it would increase the amount of people that could attend colleges, because of the affordability. I believe that reduced costs of college tuition would help America become a more intelligent country.

Most college students apply for scholarships to help pay for their tuition, but scholarships eventually run out and then you’re left paying for the remainder of the cost. Some people don’t meet the requirements for any scholarships. If you don’t have money to pay for college and there aren’t any scholarships available for you, then you can’t attend a college.

There is a sort of alternative to paying for tuition. Student loans are loans that you can take out to pay for your schooling. The only problem with student loans is that most graduates end up paying off the loans for an average of about 20 years. Even with a good career after college, paying back loans for 20 years is a struggle.
Some people say that no matter how much anyone wants to make tuition cheaper, that it won’t change. Germany provides a good example showing how those people are wrong. Germany introduced tuition 8 years ago, and now all of Germany has abolished the idea of paying for tuition. Tuition for German student’s is now funded by state governments.
