As long as there has been school, college and high school students have been cheating. Cheating has increased over time with the inventions of the internet and various application. Cheating has become the norm for students under pressure from their peers causing these student’s behavior to change long and short term. High school students are easily influenced by their colleagues, and with cheating being prevalent in high school students often find themselves cheating due to academic pressure coming from other students. The internet is gateway to plagiarism, with thousands of works from thousands of authors being accessible in an instant. Some students use the internet to plagiarize, according to Kimberly Embelton “ It is simpler than ever before to find other… copy-and-paste maneuver” (Embelton 1). Schools have been adapting to stop cheating, Frank Bi explains, some colleges have been gathering statistical data to fight data (Bi 1). Cheating has become a big problem in college causing colleges to upgrade their anti cheating system.Cheating has in return affected the relationship between students and teachers. Cheating on the regular affects the students behavior changing a students views on cheating. Students cheat so frequently that these students no longer see themselves as cheaters but as a means to pass Lang states, “Most of us are willing to engage in acts of dishonesty under the right circumstances” (Lang 1). Lang states that new studies suggests that students do not consider plagiarism cheating if the work is changed slightly. Students behavior is being twisted to embrace cheating with cheating being common in the school place. Cheating causes long term effects on students. James Lang States, students that cheat promote that student’s extrinsic motivation, and the praise the students receive is greater than learning the material (Lang 2). The extrinsic values placed in these cheating students are negatively affecting how the students perform at a job.
