Introduction As a member of The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, this essay topic was chosen to further explore my family’s background. My great-great grandma, Ora Marguerite McLellan, was born on December 27, 1904, and is listed on the Final Dawes Roll as number 554. She is listed as Choctaw by blood and was added to the Dawes Rolls as a newborn. My father, who is Native American and lives in Oklahoma, does not have much knowledge or insight about our family or the trials they experienced. My great-great grandma’s generation was reluctant to identify as Native American due to the stigmas associated with their culture and thereupon did not pass down the history to any future generations.

They were a powerful detached tribe of the Iroquoian family and were commonly called Tsaragi which translates into "cave people. " This tribe was very prominent in what is now called the U.S, but over time has been split up or run out of their land because of social or political encounters with the new settlers from Europe. Despite the dispersion or the split amongst this tribe, they still obtained their core religious beliefs, practices and ceremonies. Their detailed belief system, fundamental beliefs, significant meanings, and their connection to song and dance make up their religious system.

The Apache Indians originally came from the Alaskan region, and part of the American Southwest. Over time the tribes travelled to the United States and currently reside in Oklahoma and Texas and on reservations in Arizona and New Mexico. The Apaches were known as Nomads because they travelled around, and never settled on reservations for a long period of time. Since the nomads never settled anywhere for long, they were not accustomed to the different types of agriculture on the land which caused other tribes to overtake the land and cause the nomads to travel elsewhere.
The Hoh Native American tribe has lived amongst the Nature Bridge camp for many centuries and has many interesting topics to study such as the reservation, people, food, clothing, recreation, religion, myths and legends, the age of the tribe, and the important events on the history of the tribe. Because of these, the tribe is rich in history and culture, making it a great essay topic to study for my Nature Bridge trip of 2017. The Hoh generally live in the northwestern part of Washington, and they have an entire reservation where a majority of their population lives. This reservation is on the Pacific coast, on the mouth of the Hoh River.

They worshipped a lot of gods and even some of the gods had dolls made for them. Some tribes worshipped the sun or fire or some serpents.

In fall 2014, I took a class that covered American Indians as a small unit. After taking this class, I realized that I did not hear about the American Indians since elementary. I learned about some current events that were related to American Indians. Now, I wonder where are they, what are they doing, why aren't they shown in the news as often? My expectations from this course are to learn why there is few information on American Indians, how can they be a part of the current events on an international level, and when did they start to drift away from the media?
