CHAPTER - 4 RESEARCH FINDINGS
4.1 RESULTS OF QUESTIONNAIRE
This chapter presents the research findings on teachers’ professional development needs through questionnaire survey among students and English teachers of engineering colleges in Chennai. Independent variables related to the research questions as language teaching methods, professional development practices and needs were taken into consideration. SPSS software was used to analyse the primary data gathered in the study where descriptive statistical analysis and chi-square test methods were used to analyse the data. The findings are discussed in detail in this chapter.
Inferential analyses further indicate that there were significant differences between responses of respondents on different statements. The statistical tests were applied for

1. What demographic variables were measured at the nominal level of measurement in the Oh et al. (2014) study? Provide a rationale for your answer.
At a level of significance of 0.05 the researcher is accepting a possible type I error 5 cases out of a 100 and 95 cases out of 100 a true null hypothesis (Loiselle et al., 2011). Step 3: Selection of one-tailed or two-tailed test The selection for a one-tailed or two-tailed test is not required for a Chi-Square for independence test (Salkind, 2013). Chi-Square test has both variables that are of a categorical level of measurement therefore, there is no direction (Salkind, 2013). Step 4:
This hands on approach fosters dynamic and an interactive education, which aligns with my learning style. In my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to participate in a seminar style course focused on small group discussions and analysis of current research papers. During this, we were able to analyze the research, discuss potential obstacles, and propose future directions for the research to move in. I valued this interactive environment with the emphasis on active participation and discussion based learning. This focus on real world situations and problem solving will prepare me to tackle challenges throughout my career with poise and
The differences with these responses is that the first was made by the younger group of individuals which may be a reason on why their answer is different from those who are older. This reveals that the older group may still
The goal of this exploratory study is to determine which variables have the strongest relationships
The participants gathered in one school’s cafeteria, and were given a choice of an English or Spanish survey. Only one participant chose the Spanish version. The researchers were available to answer any questions, and also checked each survey as it was turned it to make sure the results were of value. The surveys used were
Back in 1972, Chisholm became the first African-American to run for U.S presidency. Winslow offers valuable perspective of a woman who has faced challenges of race and sex, yet still managed to push the agenda for social justice in her long political career. Having been used to hard work and being brought and grown up in Barbados and Brooklyn, she retained the perspective of an immigrant of hard work to spearhead advancement. She worked earnestly at Brooklyn College. Additionally, she worked herself around in local politics and managed to develop strong power bases in women’s organizations and clubs.
The data were processed and analyzed using SPSS version 18. Frequencies, cross tabulation, Pearson’s, chi-square test, ANOVA were used to analyze the data. A p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically
1. Please explain one or two of those experiences. Was it for class? For work?
For tests about one mean , when the population standard deviation s is known, we use s when calculating the test statistic. (for population standard deviation), , (for sample standard deviation), the equations above are called the z scores. Therefore in our case we use . Hence for bottle 19, , = 0.346. Using Moore’s table the p-value = 1, and significant level = 0.1.
This project make me realised the importance of communication and presentation skill so in future I will continuously work on improving my verbal communication and presentation skills. After working on this project I felt more confident and will always try to improve my skills so that I can work in any
Most Efficient forms of the learning process: - Acc. to Lewin, learning is best facilitated in an environment where there is dialectic tension and conflict between immediate, concrete experience and analytic detachment. By bringing together the immediate experiences of the trainees and the conceptual models of the staff in an open atmosphere where inputs from each perspective could challenge and stimulate the other, a learning environment occurred with remarkable vitality and creativity. (Kolb.) Pillars of an efficient learning mechanism in group settings:- o Feedback:-There was a concern that organizations, groups and relationships generally suffered from a lack of accurate information about what was happening around their performance. Feedback became a key ingredient of T-groups and was found to ‘be most effective when it stemmed from here-and-now observations, when it followed the generating event as closely as possible, and when the recipient checked with other group members to establish its validity and reduce perceptual distortion’ (Yalom 1995: 489). o Unfreezing:-This was taken directly from Kurt Lewin’s change theory.
Introduction To date I have completed three classes and one group facilitation exam for this semester. The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate my personal and professional learning for the duration of the module. It will discuss the definition of group work; how I planned for my group exercise; it will outline my learning as a facilitator and observer for a thirty minute exercise. I will use Bruce Tuckman 's five stage group development model to outline the stages of the group process.
My self-perception is that I have that deer in a headlight look to myself when I’m in an uncomfortable position. These are things to remember for when I have to interview for a job, that what I may think and feel, isn’t always reality. Last semester I had two group presentations. I am sure that there will be more of them so this class has prepared me to feel more comfortable and be more prepared for when the time comes.
The students selected came from three sections to avoid prejudice of their perceptions. In order to assure manageability of the collected data, the questionnaire only included multiple choice, checklist, Likert scale, ranking/rating questions and did not include open-ended response
