To the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Chicago,
While I originally waitlisted for admission into the Class of 2021, I am still firmly committed to attending the University of Chicago as my first choice for next fall and would happily matriculate immediately, should I be accepted off of the wait list.
When I first began applying to colleges late last year, nearly everyone warned me to apply to a sufficient number of “safety schools,” schools at which I would safely and almost certainly be admitted. I thought of “safety” in a different way, however.
To me, the University of Chicago was my “safety school”—certainly not in the sense that I would be guaranteed admission, but in that I would be safe to do many of

Far from being an introvert, I intend to join the University’s College Council and serve as a vocal advocate for students on campus. Given my background as a community leader through my seven years of service to the Henrico County Public Library system and my personal experiences attending a low-income school (where 55% of the student body is on free or reduced-price lunch), I am especially interested in giving a voice to underrepresented students both on campus through student government and off campus through the University Community Service Center. Similarly, I intend to contribute to the Chicago Debate Society, through which I hope not only to share the slightly unorthodox debating strategies we’ve developed in the Henrico High School debate team but also to propagate a culture of inclusion in debate which I’ve personally sought to foster over my three-year tenure as …show more content…
Whether it’s getting coffee together at Harper Cafe in the morning, talking in the Quad after lunch, or grabbing dinner in my House dining hall, I know that my classmates and their bona fide passion for whatever they're studying—government, economics, or theology—will fuel me to drive for excellence and impact both during and long after my four arduous years at the University.
In brief, I hope that this letter finds the committee well and that I will be able to call UChicago home this August.
Once upon a time a man named jack lived alone in his small city apartment in Chicago. Every day jack would go to work at his parent’s corner store mopping the floors cleaning the windows and re stalking the shelfs with food. But despite after all him and his family’s hard work they barely made it by every month. One day his mom told him to go sell the family car because they did not have enough for gas and to re stalk the shelfs at the store.
I am first generation college student. I started Florida Gulf Coast University four years after I migrated from Jamaica along with my Dad, in pursuits of “an opportunity”- something that is very scarce outside of the continental United States. Before coming to FGCU, I went to Miramar High School; I graduated with honors and promised my Dad that within four years I would bring home my bachelors degree in Finance. August 14th, 2013 marked move in day at Florida Gulf Coast University. My first few weeks at Florida Gulf Coast University introduced me to the dreariest days and nights of my life.
As a student at U of O, I hope to participate in Speech and Debate as well
I currently serve as president of my current high school’s debate club. Through stimulating conversations, debate club has increased my interests in exploring all sides of a topic and has provided me the confidence to speak up and be a leader, even in controversy. My summer enrichment programs, NSLC and Envision, provided me with simulation experiences for both mock trial and mock Senate procedures and were intensive weeks of law practices and bill formulations that boosted my love for law and public policy. These programs in combination with my involvement in debate club and Model US Senate got me interested in local

One night, during the cold winter, I walked along the side walk to reach the local store down the block. As I walked out, before I can realize it, I was dropping down onto the concrete while bullets swiftly passed me. I then began to run back home, but I wanted to keep running. Away from Chicago, away from the west side. Growing up in Chicago, it was easy to assume that there was nothing different beyond the blocks of my streets.
I am interested in UMSL’s MBA program because my research has led me to the conclusion that University of Missouri Saint Louis’s MBA program is the best education at the most affordable price. I would like to explore the business world in more depth, in a program that will challenge and stimulate my thought process. The business world is growing fast and there is a massive level of competition between companies and their products. I would like to be appropriately equipped for the challenging concerns that lie ahead in my future career. I have worked in retail management for most my working career.
To be a trailblazer in my family means more to me than to some others. My family came from Cameroon, Africa as a family of seven. The first apartment we were able to live in was a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment. One bedroom was for my parents and the second was shared between all five kids. Two boys on the top bunk and three girls on the bottom bunk.
It’s not often that I get to travel without my parents. After all, I’m still a teenager and completely supported by the. As for my trip, it was supported by my parents, but they weren’t there. It was sweet, sweet freedom – for five days. I was travelling with around thirty classmates to the Model United Nations Conference at the University of Chicago, a prestigious conference that I was both looking forwards to and dreading deeply.
“Our task must be to free ourselves... by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty” (Albert Einstein). To me, this quote says that all living things should be treated with respect. I believe that we should treat nature as we should treat others, with compassion. I would like to incorporate this passion I have, into my career. Like nature, my family is also very important to me.
An event or an experience in my life that will influence my academic work and goals at Colorado Christian University is, well I have two things. One that can slow me down and trip me up. The other one that can keep me going on this journey to get my degrees and see this experience all the way through. As I take you through these two areas on my life, please be praying.
Education: Bachelor of Science, Human Biology University of California, San Diego Cumulative GPA: 3.96 Experiences: Volunteer at the Syrian Researchers Initiative, 2015-present: I translated research articles in the field of biology and evolution from English to Arabic. The goal of the Syrian Researchers Initiative is to disseminate the latest scientific knowledge in the Middle East, simultaneously inspiring and engaging the reader. This experience strengthened my translation skills and gave me the opportunity to interact with scientists from all around the world. Translating articles also expanded my knowledge in microbiology and biochemistry and taught me how to simplify complicated concepts and present them to the average reader.
Life does not always go as planned but if you have goals and are doing everything you can to reach those goals you will eventually become successful. This has been my motivation these past few months of my life. I had a goal set since middle school to become a Civil Engineer. Although the path to getting there has been skewed every step of the way, I still believe that I'm on the right track to reach success and North Carolina State University is the best convoy on the road to reach my destination. Growing up the question, what you want to be when you grow up, is embedded in to the back of your mind.
So, I decided to fight for students and take advantage of my position in student government to create change for student benefits and challenge the status quo in order to create an equitable campus community. Further, by communicating and working with different clubs such as International Student Association, Black Student Union, and Asian Pacific Islander Association, I have improved my communication skills to motivate other people to support the events and cultural acuity for our diverse student members. It has helped me build the skills needed to collaborate with other student leaders and the faculty through this project. I also realized that working together as a team is one of the most essential factors for a great
When ball is life everyone wins: Homerun! Touchdown! 3 point shot! Goal! Yes I have celebrated and scored in all these different ways as the athlete that I am.
