The first record of firefighting dates back to the 2nd century during Egyptian times. The fire service has made tremendous strides over the years, including when Ben Franklin founded the Union Fire Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1736, which was the first volunteer fire company. Since then there have been many great leaders who have led the fire service to be what it is today. One person who is most well-known for their impact on the fire service is Chief Alan Brunacini; also known by his friends and coworkers as “Bruno” (Foskett, 2020). Bruno joined the fire service in 1958 with the Phoenix Fire Department. He worked for 13 years as a firefighter and progressed through the ranks over the years. Bruno worked hard as a Chief and was extremely passionate about his job. Throughout his career, Bruno continued to educate himself and others around him. He strongly believed in being a lifelong learner and not only learning for himself but thought that it was extremely important to pass along his knowledge to others (Foskett, 2020). In the many years that Bruno served in the fire service, he was known as “America’s fire chief” and was also known to be one of the most respected fire chiefs in America. Burno was well respected by firefighters of all ranks in the fire service from rookies to chiefs with many years of experience (Foskett, 2020). Bruno was most well known for his consideration of safety, command, and customer service. Bruno made great strides in the fire service in terms of safety. Bruno felt that the safety of firefighters was imperative and needed to be considered at all times. Col Allison holds his master’s degree in Public Administration; he is a qualified Parachutist, Ranger and Jungle Warfare Expert. Among his decorations and awards are the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, three Bronze Stars (two for heroism in ground combat), the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster and the Army Commendation Medal. Each decoration and award immensely deserved, as he served briefly on assignment in Korea on the Demilitarized Zone with the 9th Calvary Regiment, 1st Calvary Division before joining the Korean Military Advisory Group and served as an Aide-de-Camp. Upon returning from Korea in 1964 , Lt. Allison was assigned to Fort Benning, Georgia as an instructor at the US Army Infantry School. In 1967 Captain Allison was detailed to the Infantry Branch and in due course assigned to duty in Vietnam as an Infantry Company Commander in the 2nd Battalion (Mechanized), 22nd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division.
Chief Anthony Bouza describe the residents of the Bronx some of them scared to open up and speak up. The attitudes of the officers from when they first start their careers through several years on the job is self aware. Us versus them attitude meaning the people in the community. The way the police officers interacted with the people in the community was very clam, cool and collected at certain times. In this first assignment, I will try to demonstrate several areas where the trend of hiring greater educated firefighters did affected not only our training division but also the relationship between generations within our composite department. In the last ten years, our department took the approach that hiring educated firefighters from a recognize Fire School Academy would possibly be a better strategies for our small department. I for myself believe in education in the fire service, if not, why would I have registered in this program. In reality, this is where our department started to struggle. First, the minimum requirement to become a volunteer firefighter with our Department is Level 1 under NFPA-1001.
