Throughout history, children have been subjected to various forms of serious maltreatment and it has been documented to have existed since the beginning of civilization (De mause, 1974, Aries, 1962, Radbill, 1968, Ross, 1980). In fact, some archaeological evidence suggests that child maltreatment and neglect have been ongoing since prehistoric times. Despite this, it is only in the past four decades that the abuse and neglect of children have attracted wide interest among the public. Child abuse therefore is not a new issue, but rather a well-established and an important societal concern.

Children have emotional awareness of themselves and others so they able of thinking in complex way about cause and effect, right and wrong (Cunningham & Baker, 2004, Kumar et al 2013). Therefore, using young people in this study is right because as children they have the right to have say in matters that concern them (UN convention on the right of the child, 2009).Understanding young people views helps in providing context in to the occurrence of children experiences of child maltreatment. Their views are contextualize so as to provide context of the occurrence children experiences of maltreatment in Cameroon. The study encourages greater young people participation giving them a voice since young people have the right to be heard and are active participants in their own lives.
1.5 Objective of the study.
Have an in-depth understanding of secondary and high school student’s views of children experiences of child mealtreatment in Cameroon which will provide for context in to the occurrence of child maltreatment in Cameroon.
1.6 Research questions.
This research answers the following questions:
 What are young people views or perspectives of children experiences of child maltreatment?
 What are teachers views or perspectives of children experiences of maltreatment ?
1.7 Research Approach.
The research uses a qualitative approach. This approach requires the use of verbal data acquired through focus groups discussions and interviews. The data is collected from secondary and high school students ages bellow 18 and from teachers from Lycee Etoug-ebe in Yaoundé (Centre Province) and GBHS Tatum in the North West Province.
