Calijan 2014-23903 CONCEPT PAPER Analysis of Children’s Books Selection Practices of Filipino Parents from Quezon City with Children Aged 3 to 10 Years Old Background of the Problem Children’s literature are materials that were created with the purpose of informing and entertaining young people (Library of Congress Collections Policy Statements: Children's Literature, 2008). This genre comprises of a wide variety of works, including picture books, easy-to-read stories, fairy tales, fables, folk songs, lullabies, and other similar materials that are created primarily for children (Fadiman, 2017). Significance of the Study The significance of this study can be seen in three levels: its importance to the researcher’s case study, its contribution to the field of Library and Information Science, and its relevance to the society. Firstly, this study will help the researcher determine the factors that affects the book selection practices of Filipino parents. Data that will be gathered through it will then be used for further analysis. Afterwards, the processed data may now be used by libraries and other institutions concerning the issue. From the data, they may draw ideas for new programs and efforts by which they may impart the importance of choosing the right literature for children and help the parents in assuring the quality of the materials they are choosing. Eventually, the findings of the study and the actions made to address them will help the future parents, as well as educators, in selecting the right book for the next generation’s young minds.
