Introduction
Chinese classical dance is a dance established on the foundation of more than five thousand years old of Chinese culture.
Characteristics of Chinese classical dance
1. The movements of classical Chinese dance are rich in their ability to express a variety of feelings, be it happiness, sorrow, joy, anger, grief, delight, the emotions that come with parting and reuniting, insanity, infatuation, sickness, tipsiness, solemnity, ignobility, and majesty, as well as civil, military, and other personalities and stories.
2. In classical Chinese dance, it is meaning that drives the body into motion. In other words, in this dance form, only when inner feelings drive the body is full expression achieved.
3. Classical Chinese dance uses the human body's natural ability; it does not require specifically training individual muscles. That is, the muscle strength gained naturally through walking, running, jumping, climbing stairs, riding a bicycle, etc., as well as the upper-body strength naturally built through physical labor, is further strengthened in the course of training.
4. The training in classical Chinese dance has four components:
1. “Form” (dance combinations and basic barre practice)

The Alvin Ailey modern dance company is known internationally for their works and dancers but how they began is a very interesting story. The company formed in 1958 and just two years later one of the most memorable and notable performances of the company was created, “.Revelations”. Although Alvin Ailey was the creator and director of this company, Ailey’s style and the technique he used and that the company still uses stems from Lester Horton. Horton was a pivotal teacher for Ailey and inspired him to create a company and carry on this technique from Horton. This paper will illustrate the beginning influence Horton had on Ailey and how the company has grown overtime.

I have been dancing for four years now and know for a fact that dancing is a sport. Dancers practice everyday to improve like other sports. I have danced before but it was not as serious until I joined Color Guard my freshman year. Color Guard was mainly contemporary and ballet.
Dance Styles of 1920’s The 1920’s were a very interesting time period, especially due to the emergence and jazz and dancing with it. Generally when people talked about dancing back in the jazz age, they might think about the exuberant youth dances like the Charleston or Lindy Hop, or the theatrical dances of Fred and Ginger. In his article titled “The Science and Magic of Lindy Hop,” Andy Connelly, a swing dance instructor from the University of York, draws connections between the force of tension in social dancing and Newton’s Laws of Motion. Newton’s First Law of Motion states that “an object remains at rest, or in uniform motion in a straight line, unless it is compelled to change by an externally imposed force.” A swing out, an 8-count move, pictured in Figure ____, is an example of Newton’s First law of motion. After counts 7 and 8, the follow (pink) is standing apart from the lead (blue), waiting for the lead’s tension of pulling the follow in on counts 1 and 2. This is the “change by an external force” caused by the lead taking a rock step as shown in Figure _____ that brings the follow into a closed position, pictured on counts 3 and 4, to the lead.
Dance might be just a movement of a person’s feet and body for others. But to me, it means more than that. Dance is an art, a way of expressing your thoughts through your body involving perfect posture, unstoppable practice, and confidence. Gerald Graff’s, “Hidden Intellectualism” mentions that intellect does not only exist in academic form of thinking. Non-academic subjects should be apart of intellect because knowledge can also take the form of street smarts.
In her article, Embodying Difference, Jane Desmond argues that dance offers important insights into the ways moving bodies articulate cultural meanings and social identities. In other words, she explains the importance of studying the body’s movement as a way of understanding culture and society. She has two main arguments. First, she argues for the importance of the continually changing relational constitutions of cultural forms. Desmond further explains that the key to shedding light on the unequal distribution of power and goods that shape social relations are the concepts of cultural resistance, appropriation, and cultural imperialism (49).
To dance is to be knowledgeable about the stories of the ancestral heroes. Dancing, unlike painting and singing, is learnt at an early age. This allows large groups of people to demonstrate their clan rights in front of an audience. Dance is also seen as an occasion to entertain and to be entertained and through the work of dance to show their love for families and kin. It is for this reason that dance may be performed at the end of every day in some communities.
There are many other aspects of dance then just learning the “moves”. A dancer must have well trained technique, flexibility, muscular body, know terminology, memorize steps and so much more. There are so many important aspects of dance most people do not realize. If dance was given more publicity, more people would view it as a

Multiculturalism, Ethnicity and Race Before presenting the field work and in order to set the framework for this research about Multiculturalism in Classical Ballet Companies Nowadays, it is appropriate to define first of all the basic concepts of this study. The key terms, will be described briefly based on what is found in general theoretical works about these concepts and based on the course ‘Discours et Multiculturalité’, taught by Laura Calabrese at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). All the concepts related to culture and multiculturalism, such as diversity, ethnicity or race are very difficult to define clearly. Over the years many descriptions of these terms have been presented.
The dancers were observed to be full of energy which showed through their movements and dancing. Every movement was sharp and clean. Furthermore, the action portion of the basic dance elements was seen through the dancer’s basic movements that turned into dancing. INTRODUCTION Ever since the early days of humanity and recorded history, we know that humans have watched the sky and analyzed and recorded the movement of the various celestial bodies within it. Many of these early civilizations saw the movements within the sky as a celestial dance and were reproducing them in their own way as various dances. Song and dance is a traditional way for populations to teach and pass down important information to younger generations.
The word “ballet” brings to mind words such as “grace” or “beauty” when heard by many people. The definition itself states that it is a form of dance that uses precise steps and light, graceful motions. This definition was in the minds of those who attended the Théâtre des Champs-Élysèes in May 1913, but rather they were greeted with the complete opposite. When Igor Stravinsky’s ballet Rite of Spring opened, the audience was greeted with swift, chaotic music that quickly became a whirlwind of sound. The music softened and the curtains opened to a primitive dance, causing mass hysteria throughout the theatre.
