Tea Gardens were similar to coffeehouses in the fact that they provided a space for social gatherings, but unlike coffeehouses, tea gardens were regarded as places to meet people of the opposite sex instead of places to gossip and spread news. Since the American colonists drank a lot of tea, Britain decided to impose taxes on the American colonies. Because the taxes increased, the American colonists started to smuggle tea from the Dutch and other European countries. Certain people and groups are vastly more susceptible to caffeine than others as well (Persad, Leeana Aarthi Bagwath).
