Noam Chomsky is a famous American linguist, professor at the department of linguistics and philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is author of more than eighty books. His seminal work in linguistics has been cited and debated for five decades. His prolific writings on politics and international affairs are read and translated in many languages around the world. In his book “Chomsky on Mis education”, he tries deeply explain what education system in reality is and how it could be if we really had democracy, he criticizes a system which is not appropriate for education. He highlights that American government is not that liberal and democratic as they try to show it through the media and speech of their rulers, that they can do anything they want and then pretend as nothing happened around and as they are the ones who always wishes to help to the third world countries. He is arguing that education is a policy of the ruling classes; they construct their own models and programs of education and distinguish between what have to be thought to the society and what have not. He explains that schools are the primary sources of the population from where they have to get the guidance how to think and for whom to believe. Also he states one of the outstanding thinkers of the past century, who influenced him a lot, Dewey, where he says that the main goal of production is not about producing the goods, but about to produce free human beings in terms of equality, especially equality in education. All human beings should be educated and taught to think by themselves in a democratic way, to be creative and cooperative in helping to development of the world, at the same time to be able to keep admiring and revering traditional values that have been eroded. He considers that problem should be solved from the deep from looking at the history and finding what are the roots of the particular issue. He states the sayings of the great educator Freire who says “to think of history as possibility is to recognize education as possibility. It is to recognize that if education cannot do everything, it can achieve some things”. Chomsky shows his point through different disputes using specific examples of world events and providing facts to back up his allegations. After examining the problems in the present education system, he provides suggestions for what should be done to fix them.
