Although I do not condone the way the Native Americans were treated, or killed, I believe that it would have happened sooner or later. These things are inevitable. Christopher Columbus traveled west of Spain believing he would land in India. He accomplished all three of his goals and eventually would be known as a hero to many. He spread Christianity, found a vast amount of treasures, and claimed land for Spain.
She was double boarded, had a burden of 285 tons, with a draught of 14 feet and was armed with sixteen 9 pounder cannon and two 6 pounder carronades. She was classed as A1, meaning a first class ship built with first class materials. On 3 June 1782 the Sea Horse set sail for Hudson Bay on her maiden voyage, under the command of John Richards. About 100 colonists left England in early December 1606, on a cold, foggy, wet and nippy day. They were traveling in three ships, these ships were called The Susan Constant, The Godspeed and The Discovery. It took 4 months for them to sail from England until they reached Chesapeake Bay late the next April. John Smith, who was a former mercenary was aboard the ship, he was accompanied by several other members of the Virginia Company. These were people that were part of a group that searched for a suitable settlement site.
Cortes, as well as many other explorers during this time, was inspired by the Three G’s: God, gold, and glory. He planned to conquer the new lands for Spain, to convert the natives to Catholicism, and to obtain the riches of the land, mostly gold. Conquistador is basically a record of the last days of the Aztec civilization, as the two groups, the Aztecs and the Spaniards, clash, and the Spaniards ultimately come out on top.
Alexander the Great, Kon-Tiki and The Four Voyages present a common theme of perseverance throughout the books. Alexander’s main goal was to conquer the Persians at first, but then he to carried away and expanded to Asia. All of these books portray a desire to accomplish their goal: Alexander’s goal was to conquer Asia using different techniques, Christopher Columbus’ goal was to arrive in Asia and collect spices to take back to the Spanish crown, but he ended up being distracted with gold in the land he thought was the West Indies and Kon-Tiki’s goal was to prove his theory that people crossed the Pacific in a raft to get to the Polynesian Islands was correct. In the text Alexander the Great by Arrian, Alexander is portrayed as a hero
He sailed out westerward on a ship named, Santa Maria and two caravels, The Pinta and The Nina. With him he took ninety men to accompaniate him. They were now on their way to what Colombus thought was " Asia". On October 12, they hit land.
The second monday of october is when many celebrate Columbus Day. A holiday designed to honor Christopher Columbus, an Italian explorer, who set foot in the new world on October 12, 1492, five hundred twenty five years ago. He intended to find a western sea route to China, India and Asia where gold was rumored to be found in abundance. Instead he landed in the bahamas. Did you know that Christopher Columbus's real name was Cristoforo Colombo? Columbus and the Columbian Exchange did more harm than good. The Columbian Exchange was the exchange of goods betwixt the Old World (Europe, Asia, Africa) and the New World (North and South America). Animals, diseases, people, crops, foods, and culture were what was traveled athwart the ocean between the two worlds. In 1492 when Christopher Columbus departed Spain under the control of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella, he wanted to find a new route to Asia by traveling west.
We hear of stories of how Christopher Columbus accidently discovered America or the New World. Most of our history books indicate the settlers were the ones that helped shaped this new world. We tend to forget how new explorers also impacted America. Christopher Columbus and the rest of Europe coming to America changed the globe by igniting import and export and bridged the Atlantic Ocean between the two worlds. The “Columbus Exchange” is the exchange of technology, diseases, animals, and plants between Europe and the Americas.
To begin, on August 3rd, 1492, Columbus started on his journey with three ships, including his own. He left from Palos de la Frontera, a Spanish town. The ships, named, The Santa Maria, Niña, and Pinta, featured crewmembers from the town, and the surrounding areas. The Santa Maria was a large, bulky cargo vessel, and one that was not particularly suited for long-term exploration.

The Russians started expanding eastward and by 1680 they reached the edge of Siberia; Kamchatka, which eventually become the port for the later expeditions to the northwestern parts of America. The Russians like the Spaniards had a particular way of treating native people. When describing the native people of Siberia, the Russians said “Only in the power of speech do they differ from animals” (Taylor pg. 447). That was a strong indication of how the Russians would eventually treat the Aleut people of the Alaska
Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. His discovery of the New World created a chain reaction leading to the Age of Exploration. Portugal, Spain, England, Holland, and France immediately set forth to claim land and set up a colonization in the New Worlds. Many explorers were sent out to claim whatever land they could for their country. Explorers such as Jacques Cartier, Francisco Pizzaro, Francisco Vasquez De Coronado, and Hernando Cortes were all looking for land to claim.
The three ships were the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria; Columbus would command the Santa Maria, the largest of the three ships. Once underway, they stopped briefly on the Canary islands to repair the Pinta’s. They set sail August 6 due West, but changed course on October 12 to a south-western direction. The Crew was for many months unhappy with their captain, who seemed almost uncertain of where he was going. But things changed once signs of land appeared - land was sighted on October12, landing the ships on Guanahani, an island in the Bahamas.
