Ever since the dawn of civilisation the design of a city did not only depend on the functional aspect of the city but also depends on the aesthetic aspect. Every city was designed to be attractive and look good. However with the evolution of design around the world and the increasing number of cities (especially the international ones), the concept of well designed city doesn’t work as efficiently as it used to. In fact, well designed/good looking city doesn’t necessarily mean it is a well know, attractive city. Hence some cities look amazing but it’s not recognised internationally by the the public. the human perception of a city is represented by one image or one feeling. Thus the new approach of designing a city is creating a unique image that stands out from the others, an image that can be saved in the memory of everyone that comes across it. and every city had it’s own unique image that stands out. This image is one aspect of what is knowing as City identity, and one of it’s definitions that was mentioned in one of Kevin Lynch’s works as “The sense of a city that distinguishes itself from other cities.” …show more content…
and now days it is one of the mostly discussed issues wether, in architecture or urban planing. In one approach, finding an identity for the city is one of the main challenges facing the city leaders. According to a huge variety of city leaders, having a strong city Image is related to it’s success, which reflects on its reputation, enhancing it’s effect on the human perception, making it more attractive and memorable. In the text “Contemporary Ethnic Geographies in America” informs us about ethnic enclaves in the United States in an article by Brian J. Godfrey. Chapter 3: New Ethnic Landscapes informs us about how a town can become an establishment such as a monument to one city. Some may that geographical affects identity more since that the place you lives influenced your way of thinking of what the environment wants you to believe in than what you want to believe in. In Tehran, Iran six young Iranian men and women were dancing to the western song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams soon after to be arrested. Ruled by an religious leader, western things is considered an taboo. It causes Iranians to be controlled that these things are wrong, and shouldn't be done in the public eyes. Everything seems perfect like that, however, geographical location lumps everyone in a haystack; making it seems that everyone has the same problem; everyone in that area are going through the same problems: family, money, food, and bills plus

In Erik Larson’s novel The Devil in the White City takes place during the Gilded Age. During this period of time everything appears good and golden on the outside when in reality everything was full of corruption. In the novel, the author takes the reader to the city of Chicago, where the city is “swelled “in population causing the city to expand in all “available directions” (Larson 44). As Chicago became the “second most populous [city] in the nation after New York” there was an urge that city show off to the world and the nation of how great it was through the Chicago World’s Fair (Larson 44).
in America. It is the only such city not dominated by foreigners. It remains in a class to itself as the one city of the nation in which the white, American, Christian idealism still
Architecture has the ability to remark and reflect any region, give a feeling and a sense of a place, and present thoughts and creativity. Across the world, especially in the United States, there are many cities that are distinguished by its architecture and unique styles: The skyline of New York City is defined by it’s skyscrapers; San Francisco’s mixture of Victorian and modern colored houses; New Orleans’ iconic Creole townhouses; and Miami’s modernist architecture. Los Angeles, San Diego and some of the cities in the same region are no different from the previous appreciable cities all around America. These cities are located in the state of California which is on the West Coast. They share some significant architectural characteristics

(not since 2007),where they can find the opportunities and hopes they read in some cheap magazine after buying a hot dog was possibly done with rat meat. Oh my! The background of my cultural identity I am an African American female but that isn’t all there is to know me for. I am an African American girl who is very interactive with my religion and also my culture. Cultural identity can be hard to explain because some people don’t know what’s really in their culture and they fail to see , and understand it. I know what my cultural identity is because of my ethiopian flag, the baked macaroni, and the movie the lion king.
Introduction As the world’s population continues to migrate and live in urban areas, planners, engineers, and politicians have an important role to ensure that they are livable and sustainable. But what defines an urban area and what makes it so attractive? In my opinion, urban areas are places that consist of a variety of land uses and buildings, where services and amenities are easily accessible to the general public, and includes an established multimodal transportation network. Also, it should be a place where people can play, learn, work, and grow in a safe and collaborative manner.
There is the idea of a city, and the city itself, too great to be held in the mind. And it is in this gap (between the conceptual and the real) that aggression begins” is central to Saunders’ essay, due to the fact that this quote illustrates Saunders’ message that people tend to have misconceptions generated from their own limited experience and misconceptions can easily lead to conflicts and aggression if handled
In relation to the art work of Uriel Orlow, Remnants of the Future, 2010, we can understand that development of cities like Ordos which have no purpose other than sustaining the GDP and elevating the economy can end up destroying the whole idea living in a better world. What is the purpose of building such fake cities when the people for whom it was built cannot even afford to live in it due to unbelievably high price. This shows failed state planning, fake economic prosperity and out of control real estate

Another convention of German Expressionism is a harsh set design. Jagged lines, winding roads, jolting architecture and looming archways are all classic pieces to an expressionist set design. And while the set design of Metropolis was extremely elaborate and still astonishing to this day, it does not truly fit the expressionist style. The city
Urbanization To what extent is urbanization a critical driver of social instability, failure of infrastructure, water crises & the spread of infectious diseases? Urbanization is basically the gradual increase in the proportion of people living in the urban areas or a specific area, and the ways in how the society adapts to it. Urbanization can be a good impact to a country and has the ability to improve its economy and the life of people but it also has the ability to destroy the country and the life of all the people that exist there. GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE:
In recent decades, urban cities turned to become an attractive place for people from Different cultures to live in. This movement from different cultures to urban areas caused a significant change and development to urban cities and made it an extrovert area for different backgrounds. Cross (1989) defined culture as “ an integrated pattern of Human behavior that includes thoughts, communications, actions, customs, beliefs, values, and institutions of a racial, ethnic, religious, or social group”(p.7).
