During this time period there was many writers writing both for and against the South. A major person in history, Thomas Jefferson, would write against the North and for the South. That is only one of many example from back then, but at this time some of the greatest critics of the South were from the South. Some people believe the South has such a long memory on the civil war because they lost, and even though some people in the current South want many of their peers to just forget about that time in history, many will not give it up.
During the 19th century, the population of the United States of America was growing rapidly, and more and more Americans started to move west. Even though the American Identity was a strong as ever, there was still strife within the country. The Northern states and the Southern states had very different economical, political, and social aspects of life, leading to the two sides of the United States to disagree with each other.
It began with the South fearing for themselves, believing that they would be taken over and ruled. Soon the majority of the population would be free states wanting to smother them, and they could not compete. This caused the secession.
The Southern states of the U.S. had always differed from the Northern states. Northern states were more industrial, and Southern states were more centered around agriculture. In any case, differences usually lead to arguments, especially in this case. Eventually, their differences became too great, and the South wanted to secede. The North said it could not do this and that this act was illegal. The North and South bickered whether it had the right to secede or not, and it is still debated to this day. The Southern states did have the right to leave the union as secession was proved to be legal.
By 1860, the United States of America had turned into the Divided States of America. The once unified country had let slavery divide the country by a thin red line. A thin red line of blood being shed by slaves and those fighting for what they believe to be right and moral. This thin red line caused those of the North and South to lose sight of the purpose of the United States; a country that was created as a haven for all, where anyone could be viewed with equality, and freedom was tangible for every person. Rather the United States began to create social classes that were next to impossible to discard. Those in their social class were stuck for generations to come. The thin red line is what made any sectional compromises impossible as well
The South, which was known as the Confederate States of America, seceded from the North, which was also known as the Union, for many different reasons. The reason they wanted to succeed was because there was four decades of great sectional conflict between the two. Between the North and South there were deep economic, social, and political differences. The South wanted to become an independent nation. There were many reasons why the South wanted to succeed but the main reason had to do with the North's view on slavery. All of this was basically a different interpretation of the United States Constitution on both sides. In the end all of these disagreements on both sides led to the Civil War, in which the North won. There were a few reasons
It was just before the Civil War when everything seemed to be falling apart in the young country. The North is against slavery which led to the Missouri Compromise. The North was also industry based and relied on manufactured goods. Since the North was more cultured they had artists, merchants and manufacturers. The South was pro slavery because they were agriculturally based and needed someone to work the fields. The South didn’t have as much culture as the North, and there was less room for improvement. The South sold natural goods to the North and the North made 10 times as much as they paid. There are many reasons that led to the Civil War a few would be difference in education, economies, slavery and tariffs.
In the late parts of the 19th century, the United States was in turmoil. Beginning in April of 1861, the division within the country boiled over and the Civil War began. There were many arguments over the morality of slavery and other ideologies. Throughout the war there was no clear advantage for either side. However, the North with several advantages and few disadvantages over the South, eventually won and ended the war.
Equal Protection involves the 13th and 14th amendment. An issue that they had in the past was slavery. Some people thought that it was not right to have blacks as slave. Even if you were black and free you had no rights to do anything, they were not citizens. Dred Scott is what caused the Civil War, which Abraham Lincoln was President of the northern states. The northern states did not want slavery and the Southern states did. Due to the civil War there was hundreds of thousands wounded fighting for what they believed. That issue caused a divide that still affects the country till this day.
It was 4:30 on April 12, 1861 when Confederate forces surrounded the Union base, Fort Sumter, and opened fire. Little did the Confederates know this would lead to a long and bloody war against the Union.
Most people don't know for sure why the American Civil War came to be. However, one theory that repeatedly comes up is the issue of slavery and whether it was just or wrong in America the land of the freedom throughout history and discussions. Charles B. Dew the author of, Apostles of Disunion: Southern Secession Commissioners and The Cause of The Civil War, claims to be a southerner himself and explains his thoughts and education growing up in the south. In his youth, he was taught by his family that the reason the South went to war was to fight for their State’s rights, but as an adult, he explains that it may not have been the only reason they fought after researching for himself.
The North and South emerged as two distinct regions because they had various differences. These differences included the geography, the economy, slavery, and transportation. The North was built mainly on factories and trade and opposed slavery, while the South’s foundation was agriculture and slavery. The geography of the South was more rural than the North and the North had more means of transportation than the South. These drastic characteristics created a vast divide between the two regions.
When it came to morale, the South clearly had the advantage. For the most part, Southerns believed they were fighting to defend their homeland and protect their way of life. However, this was no match to Northern might in every other aspect of the conflict. Compared to the South, the North had a total population advantage of 2.5 to 1; a value of firearms produced at 31 to 1; corn and wheat production at 2.2 to 1; railroad mileage of 2.4 to 1; and a value of manufactured goods at 11 to 1. Thus, brute force in numbers gave the North a distinct advantage. But, the Southern will to fight is what allowed them to hang on so long through such a bloody war. In order to crush the Southern resistance, the North also made strong use of its military might,
As the United States of America developed as a country, the North and the South started differing in their economies, culture, and lifestyle. This created many problems for the United States because the South did not agree on the North 's views. In fact, the South was so different that they considered forming their own country. The South desired to preserve the institution of slavery, the principle of States’ Rights, and that all states in Confederacy issued an Article of Secession to break from the Union.
The South didn't like the North attempting to change their economic means and as a result all the States seceded forming the Confederacy. There are many reasons that caused the civil war. Three main reasons that caused the American Civil war was slavery, states’ rights, Sectionalism. The North prevailed because of Abraham Lincoln, the EmancipationProclamation and how industrialized the north was compared to the south.
