THESIS
In 1905, the world didn't realize that a fashion trailblazer had just been born, ready to promote ideas that no one in history had ever practiced in fashion: comfort, practicality, and equality. Claire McCardell put a spotlight on clothes that men had designed for women and showed how they could be changed for the better. Think of clothes you have seen before in people's closets, things like spaghetti strap tank tops, casual full-length skirts, practical swimsuits, and flats. These items seem like they should have been made before Claire McCardell, but they were made by her. 1952- McCardell became an official partner of Townley.

1956- McCardell becomes the first woman to make baby clothes and baby shoes, along with womens clothing, shoes, accessories, and sportswear.

Legacy
Claire McCardell died on March 22, 1958, dying of colon cancer. McCardell finished her final line in her hospital bed, and snuck out to see her final show. The crowd was so excited to see her the local hotel was flooded with hundreds of fans.

Claire McCardell inspired many designers like Micheal Kors, Isaac Mazrahi, and Tory Burch. McCardell blazed a trail for past, present and future designers, leaving the mark she left on the fashion world untouchable.

However, McCardell's battle is still being fought. Only 14% of women's clothing brands are owned by women, and McCardell is somewhat forgotten, but her legacy will live on forever.

Conclusion
Fashion has changed drastically since Claire McCardell. Clothing is now more simple and comfortable, and no one will judge you for wearing a dress with only a belt as definition. Claire McCardell has pushed the frontiers of fashion and made them into the everyday clothes we see now. The male dominance is much better now, but people still argue about who gets to dress women.
