Clash of the Titans A hero is somebody who faces enormous adversity; usually the characteristics of a hero are courage, composure, persistence, initiative. Usually the hero will face the adversity and may fail at first but eventually will always prevail in the end. A hero also is successful in overcoming obstacles to achieve what people thought could not be done. There are many heroes in the world; a hero can be anyone in your life that you know, your siblings, to a famous person, or even your next-door neighbor. Although there are many heroes, I am only going to explain the differences and similarities between Beowulf and Zeus. Both of these heroes come from completely different backgrounds but never the less; they are still heroes in somebody’s eyes. First in order for me to explain the differences between the two heroes, I must first explain where each comes from and their background. I will describe Beowulf

He attempted to take over his father’s thrown, Cronus. After Zeus took his brothers and sisters from their father, Zeus gathers the younger gods at Mount Olympus and wages a war against Cronus. In the end Zeus and his brothers defeat Cronus and his fellow Titans. They banish all Titans to Tartaros. Zeus also has two brothers, brothers Poseidon and Hades. After Zeus took over his father’s thrown the three brothers fought to determine which of the three would sit on the thrown. Zeus won the fights and became the ruler of the gods, as well as lord of the sky and rain. His weapon was the famous thunderbolt, which he hurled at those who displeased or made him mad, especially liars and oath breakers. He was married to Hera but as he was also well known for having for his many affairs with other goddesses. Zeus has had many battles but this battle between his father was on of the most well-known battles in recent
“The Titans, led by Kronos, deposed their father and ruled the universe. They were in turn overthrown by the Olympians, led by Zeus, in the battle called the Titanomachy. Zeus freed from Tartarus the Cyclopes and the hundred-handed giants, the Hecatoncheires, to aid him in the war. The Cyclopes forged Hades' helmet of darkness, Poseidon's trident, and Zeus' thunderbolts. With these weapons Zeus and his brothers were able to defeat the Titans.”
Beowulf and Gilgamesh compare and differ greatly in the epic hero texts. This shows many traits that shape the two epics into what is the same and different. The main reasons that compare and contrast the epics is leadership, culture, and the journey. The monsters is a big part of the epics as well because it shows how they deal with them. Like how Beowulf's monsters terrorize him, and Gilgamesh was out to get the monsters.
I think that both are great warriors, but Beowulf is not as corrupt as
“A Hero is an ordinary person who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles”, quoted by Christopher Reeve. Beowulf however, tends to be an epic hero based on the definition of one. Beowulf was definitely a hero, not because of his super strength, smartness, or even his sword. But because when everyone backed down he was the one to step up & sacrifice his life to save others. “ Beowulf fights in various battles which shows his hero characteristics such as supernatural, bravery, and leadership.
Greek mythology is a person favorite thing to research about because the things like goddesses, monsters, places. In greek mythology zeus is the youngest son that cronus and rhea have, he was the supreme ruler olympics and the pantheon of gods, and originally worshiped as a weather god by greek tribes. Zeus won the draw and became the supreme the ruler of gods, as well as lord of the sky and rain. Zeus the deity of the universe, ruler of the skies and earth, zeus is important to greek mythology, because he was the god of the sky and the ruler of olympian gods.
The hero in the epic poem Beowulf is the main character, Beowulf. He demonstrates heroic qualities as soon as the readers are introduced to his character. Beowulf proves himself to be courageous and brave by voluntarily fighting the “undefeatable” monster, Grendel. He is greatly admired by both the Danes and Geats for his courageous acts. Although his motivation is altered to only benefit himself with the title of the greatest warrior, his plan to save the Danes is greatly appreciated by all in the land.
Christopher Reeve (AKA the 1978 superman) said that, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles”. Both Beowulf and Modern day heroes are similar in that way in that they fight for the common good of people. That quote from Christopher Reeves on what a modern day hero is, also applies to the epic hero qualities that Beowulf has. Similarly Beowulf and a modern day hero defeat an evil so that good can prevail. Some examples are, Beowulf Slaying Grendel and Grendel's mother to save the land of the Danes, and soldiers fighting enemies that threaten the lives of a country, and police officers putting criminals behind bars.
The heroes in the two epic poems The Epic of Gilgamesh and Beowulf are very similar in terms of their values. Beowulf in the poem Beowulf and Gilgamesh in the poem The Epic of Gilgamesh are the two main characters. The two men possess great physical strength unmatched by any man from the ancient or middle period.
They both fight battles that are mythological and impossible for a normal man to fight in. Beowulf fights the monster Grendel, and Gilgamesh fights the guardian monster Humbaba. They both defeat their enemies, something that someone that does not possess their strength and courage could not do. But Beowulf is selfless and fights only for his people, and not himself. Gilgamesh on the other hand is selfish and takes advantage of his people.
Beowulf shares the same traits with as many other heroes I know about. For example, Beowulf 's willpower can be compared with Henry Cavill 's Superman (Man of Steel). In Beowulf: "The Battle with the Dragon", Beowulf battled the dragon and he noticed that his weapons started to fail him and that he was weakened by his age. In spite of that, Beowulf 's willpower enabled him to continue fighting the dreadful beast. Eventually, after his ally Wiglaf provided Beowulf with some assistance, he was able to break through and deliver the killing blow to the dragon.
Beowulf and Thor are very similar in terms of personality, morals, and the way they think things should be done. They are both very strong men and they have the need to control every little thing and how things should work out. They are both very arrogant and they like to brag Thor does not want to listen to what anyone wants to say while Beowulf does not have to listen to anyone because he already has a firm grasp of what his culture is like and what is to be expected of him. Thor on the other hand has a lot to learn he has to understand how to be a good king so he can serve his people correctly. Beowulf already knows how to do those things because he grew up learning the ways of the Anglo Saxons.
On the island Zeus was raised and taken care of by nymphs of the sea. When Zeus got older and matured he decided to over throw his father. He wanted to over throw his father to take revenge for swallowing his brothers and sisters. Zeus also wanted to overthrow Cronus to take charge and become powerful. He become friends with a titaness or nymph Metis.
In the epic Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, Beowulf is depicted as a heroic figure who fights monsters and defends the weak. During its time, Beowulf would be considered a great hero, however in today 's standards Beowulf would only be considered a great warrior. That’s because a hero should value the lives of the people and not seek to be rewarded. Instead, Beowulf committed heroic acts for his own selfish reasons and never shows to values the lives of the people. From fighting Grendel to slaying the dragon, Beowulf only fought because he value the fame and fortune that comes along with those accomplishments.
The three young gods yelled, “You will die Zeus!” Zeus exclaimed, “I cannot die for I am immortal and so are you !” Zeus fought Cancer, Gemini and Aries for 1.652 million years until all of the gods were tired and every day the young gods and Zeus would battle it out, no one ever won because the battle was a froget of immortality and it was a lost of Virgo. The machine ran out of fuel and Virgo ran away with all of her possessions packed away secretly. Zeus hailed 8 meteores around the young gods the young gods punched the meteorites and and they bounced everywhere around the piece of the core that Aries dropped the first time the young gods fought.
They both go through the “Hero’s Journey,” and display many characteristics of a hero. Beowulf, however, better fits the qualities of an epic hero due to his unselfish personality, his fearlessness, and his nobility. One reason Beowulf is the better epic hero is because his intentions and motives were selfless. He always fought to save the people, not for glory or treasures.
