Classroom management is very significant in order to create a positive and engaging learning environment. It is important to envision what your classroom will look like so you are ready on the first day of school to have students know the rules, procedures, consequences, and expectations of the class. The third guideline will be to be respectful to classmates and the teacher and to use respectful and not inappropriate language towards them. The fourth guideline will be to remain in seat unless told otherwise. The 5th and final guideline will be to keep hands, feet, and body to yourself. I will go over the guidelines with the students and make sure they are written down and visible to all students. I will keep the guidelines up in the room so students can refer to them and be reminded of them. I will explain that following these guidelines will allow for a positive and safe learning environment. I will then go over the consequences if any of these guidelines are broken. Therefore, we already present two possibly considerably hurdles that fortunately the majority of children manage to overcome smoothly. This is somewhat due to the management of their learning environment and the creation of a warm, positive and encouraging ethos. However, as we know not all children react in the same way to situations and It is clear that when teaching a class of children of any age how disruptive behaviour can negatively impact all involved, leading to the need of a program of positive behaviour strategies that is followed consistently throughout a school.
At Meachem, there is a student who is punished for leaving the classroom on his own accord, yet when he acts out in class, the teacher will often send him into the hallway. This sends the student a mixed message on appropriate and inappropriate behavior. A way to integrate best practice in this situation is to sit down with the student and teacher and establish ground rules for appropriate behavior. One should also explain to the teacher that a child cannot be reprimanded for behaviors that the teacher is instituting. Additionally, a check in/check out system with a peer mentor may be beneficial to the student in helping them achieve daily goals, such as calming down when upset or completing class work.
I have learned that as an educator I need to be there for my students, protect them, and care for them as my own children. I learned about certain strategies and techniques I can use in the classroom. We discussed how important it is to prevent misbehavior in the classroom. Some prevention strategies I learned are; to plan and anticipate, have high expectations, focus on the relationships with your students, do not give up on students who have a label. These techniques will assist me as a teacher to prevent misbehavior and to have a good classroom management.
As aforementioned, I would collaborate with my students about the type of consequences that they would have if they made poor choices that broke one of the rules. The type of consequence that I would use the least in my classroom would be the conventional consequences. In my opinion, removing students from the learning environment, unless absolutely necessary, is a disservice to students. This is not to say that some of the consequences may remove students from their working environment, because they might, but students will always be in the classroom. To better explain my point, consider the following example: Joe is working with his group during math centers, and he begins to throw the manipulatives at his classmates.
Throughout this essay I will be explaining how a behaviour policy supports teachers and how it can also create an effective learning environment. I will also be highlighting any issues which could potentially arise from the use of a behaviour policy. A behaviour policy is guidance for members of staff within a school on how to deal with different behaviours, and sets out the expectations of behaviour for all children at the school. If a behaviour policy is written well it will support the formation of an effective learning environment. An effective learning environment for young children is an environment in which all children feel able to express themselves freely, allowing them to learn effectively.

A number of ways to establish a safe and supportive learning environment is to stay within what is deemed as conventional rules and disciplines. A typical class room layout is rows of desks and chairs facing the front, it is the usual expected layout for learners and encourages them to accept conformity, something as simple as sitting on the chairs facing the front of the classroom is reassuring to the majority that the class is safe. In days of yesteryear the students would be expected to stand up when the teacher entered the room and wait for permission to be seated, thankfully those days are in the distant past and now it is acceptable to remain talking until the teacher is ready to begin class.
Classroom management is directly tied to the level of students’ involvement and academic achievement (Kirk, 2010). Behavior management focuses on decreasing the amount of time students display disruptive behaviors so students can achieve academically. There are three effective strategies for effective classroom management. They include, proactive classroom management through praise, consistent consequences and punishments, and positive interaction between teacher and students (Kirk, 2010). Teachers teach students their behavior expectations by teaching them to follow a set of specific rules so they are aware of their expectations in the classroom.
Working with children in a middle school definitely has its variety of issues. This population is developing at a fast rate and at times do not know why they are doing what they are doing. The middle schoolers can be impulsive and hard to reach at this time of their life. As a school counselor, I would encourage positive and appropriate behaviors. The security guard of the school brought an issue to me.

Misbehaviour results from four major causes or mistaken goals. Democratic teaching, logical consequences and encouragement, rather than praise. The reaction of teachers to students' misguided goal-seeking behavior can be instrumental in either reducing or increasing the incidence of misbehavior in the classroom. Avoiding these discipline problems depends to some degree on teachers' personalities.
There are certain said and unsaid rules and regulations that teacher and student follow. For example the student is aware that he or she has to give respect to the teacher and they know that there is a certain way they have to sit in class while being taught or for that matter standing up from their places greeting the teacher when they enter the class. Teaching philosophy is described by Sadker and Sadker as, “Behind every school and every teacher is a set of related beliefs - a philosophy of education – that influences what and how students are taught. A philosophy of education represents answers to questions about the purpose of schooling, a teacher’s role and what should be taught and by what methods.” (Teacher, Schools and Society. 2005). With this definition in consideration, my teaching philosophy is “I believe that children learn best when they are given the chance to choose, discuss and explore what they want to learn, when they want to learn and how they want to learn.
As we can notice traditional classroom cannot longer satisfy the needs of education in the 21st- century. So we have to make radical changes in order to create the classroom that will motivate students to learn. Teachers today teach using different pedagogical approaches and various instructional methods. According to fact that our educational system is changed with the help of technology the 21st -century classroom should be a productive environment where students can develop the skills they will need in workplace. The modern 21st-century classrooms should encourage students to develop their high order thinking skills.
