For my classroom observations project, I visited Borinquen Bilingual School & Sport Development Center, Inc. (BBS). It is located at the 467 St. K-2.0 in the Borinquen ward in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. It is a rural area with many greenery that surrounds the school and in the school also. The school level originally went from Pre-kinder through sixth grade, nonetheless, this 2015-2016 school year, BBS has its first ever seventh grade class. The school administration plans to keep expanding until ninth grade, making the school and elementary and junior high school. It is a very large school, having two or three classes of each grade. It holds approximately 560 students in total. Because it is a bilingual school, each teacher has to have had an …show more content…
The teacher writes a random word on the chalkboard in a vertical manner, then students write a word that begins with the letter of the acrostic word. This technique can be used as a game. The teacher can divide the class into two groups: A or B, boys or girls, etc. Then the teacher chooses a volunteer who, with a dictionary, selects two words to write on the chalkboard. One player from each team steps up to the chalkboard to fill in the acrostics. The fastest player who completes the acrostic and spells each and every word correctly will win a point for their team. As the game progresses, the person in charge of choosing the words from the dictionary may choose a more challenging word every time, with teacher supervision and suitable for the grade level, in this case third …show more content…
In third grade, children know already how to form simple sentences. Now, by learning how to form compound sentences, they can strengthen their writing skills, but also their communication skills. To do this, teachers use two different containers. In one container, teachers put simple sentences on strips of paper of one color. In the second container, teachers put conjunctions on strips of paper of another color different than the one for the simple sentences. Then students come up front and pick two simple sentences and one conjunction. As a group discussion, the students along with the teacher can discuss if the compound sentence makes sense or why it does not make sense. This can also be a laugh-inducing activity because sometimes the sentences could not make sense or they could be funny by nature, so teachers must be able to have group control in order to prevent the activity from getting out of hand. To keep students practicing writing, I, as a teacher, I would provide fill-in stories every special holidays, such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, for students to write. These stories may have a historical background. This way, children also receive a mini history lesson as well as the writing practice. For example, if the students are writing a fill-in about Thanksgiving, they could create a story about the Pilgrims and the Mayflower.
As an integration to the writing class, a teacher could ¨publish¨
They all seemed to really enjoy this round object. They hit it with big wooden sticks that were fat and round at one end and slimmer at the other. Then some of the other boys would try to catch it with what Alex learned was called a glove, and while this happened the boy with the big stick would run around three bases then back to where he began, if he made it they called it a home-run if not he was out or stuck on a base. Alex had observed this game for a while he now wanted to try it. Henry said that he could be on his
Ayleen Garcia 1 A/B Teacher: Ms. Zapata Where: Seabourn Elementary Time: 3 hours 8 minutes My observation purpose for this week was to observe and figure out the inclusion plan indicated for the classroom. A bilingual paraprofessional comes and visits the classroom and helps the bilingual children that are in need of more help than usual.
“Dragons Love Tacos,” is a captivating book about how a young boy throws a taco party for a bunch of dragons. When I got to Hope Community both ELL students were female. One student is in Kindergarten (student A) and the other student is in Second Grade (Student B). I do not know much about them, but both of their parents are from El Salvador. The student’s first languages are Spanish and Spanish is the primary language spoken at home.
Artifact Description and Connection(s) to Domain: The First Thanksgiving – Group Playwriting or Song Composing lesson plan effectively demonstrates proficiency in Domain Two since it requires students to reach high expectations when creating a play or composing a song about the first Thanksgiving. The use of a variety of instructional strategies to facilitate learning for various learning styles, the appropriate content based on South Carolina State Standards with a specified learning goal, teacher monitoring to assess and aid students in their understanding, and a summative assessment with a detailed rubric for students to use as a guide further demonstrates proficiency of Domain Two since the combinations of the components are used to enhance students’ learning during this particular instructional plan. By developing a lesson plan that provides students with two options, creating a play or composing a song, a variety of
With these funds the program is able to benefit not only children, but the families and community involved. The program is led by Servant Leader Interns, who work with the children to boost reading scores while also fostering a love for learning and emotional support. In the after-school program students receive one healthy snack and in the summer program the children are provided with 2 meals and one healthy snack. The program implements an Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC), which is based on 5 components; “high quality academic enrichment, parent and family involvement, civic engagement and social action, integrational leadership development, and nutrition, health and mental health” (CDF). Through this structure the program is able to boost the morale of the children enrolled and teach them the importance of
Parents will play a word game with their child called forming and recognizing rhyme. The children will read a DR. Seuss book
This is help the teachers understand some of the difficulties that the students face in their neighborhoods, since most of the faculty and staff live in areas outside the school community. • Create programs to help students to overcome language, academic and behavioral barriers that sometimes interfere with students learning. I might also make sure that there were bilingual instructors on staff to teach foreign languages and ESL classes. • Include various programs, displays, and learning units on and about multicultural holidays. I would use this as a means to remove obstacles standing in the way of establishing a positive school
Students learned the Grab Bag Game more or less and The Bicycle Race Game. They learned the bicycle race by remembering how to double a number. Friday the students did not have school.
Their are quite whispers of what people are going to write about. We start at the front of the class; most kids talking about where they went on vacation. It comes around to me and I stand up “My name is Sadie and I went to the pride festival in Iowa City this summer”. Everyone around the room looks at each other and then starts to laugh. “That’s enough.” said Mr. S
The learner was strapped to a chair with electrodes. After he has to learn pairs which was given for him to study, the teacher tests him to learn and tests him by naming a word and asking the learner to remember its partner from a list of the
In order to rectify the issues at Harpo Allen, increase student achievement, and promote overall success for the organization, the school will need to be restructured. In restructuring the school, the principal should use the demographic data of the community to devise ways to integrate the culture found
The first observation was conducted on August 30th at 9:00 a.m., while the student was participating in the special education resource room. The observation took place for a total of 25 minutes. For the duration of the observation the student was seated at a small table working one-on-one with the special education teacher. Along with the student being observed and the special education teacher, two other students, as well as, two paraprofessionals were in the special education resource room during the observation time. One student and paraprofessional were working one-on-one at a small table, while the other student was sitting in a bean bag chair reading a book.
The classroom that I will be observing is a Preschool classroom at KinderCare Learning Center in Bartlett, Illinois. The teacher I will be observing over the next period of time is Laura Sturgulewski. She has worked at KinderCare for 8 years, mostly in the 2 year-old room until fall of 2013, when she took the lead teaching position of the Preschool classroom. Her classroom mainly has 3 year-olds, but on occasion has a mix of 4 year-olds and transitioning 2 year-olds. The number of students in her class depends on the day, because they are a child care center some students have a part time schedule, unlike an elementary school where children attend every day.
OVERVIEW The elementary school that I observed at, Orchard View Elementary, was located in Delray Beach, FL. The location was very accessible and right off of the highway. The teacher I got assigned to was Ms. Diann Johnson. She teaches a class for students in 3rd-5th grade.
Classroom Observations Mrs. Canada is the first grade teacher that I observed, and the subject that she was teaching was reading. She had planned well-organized power points and crafting materials in advance, so she was prepared for the lesson. The two times I observed, the lesson that was being taught at both times was reading. Children in the classroom used a lot of previous knowledge for the lesson.
