"When you think a food is bad you eat it in secret and shame and you eat much of it." This is a quotation from Bee Wilson, a British food writer, journalist and historian. For as long as I can remember, people have associated delicious food with corrupted indulgence. anything that tastes good has got to be bad for your body or soul or both. good morning dr ramnarian and class, in this speech themed "you are what you eat" I will discuss how our food choices and diets have become a moral issue. in recent years, the moralistic vocabulary of food seems to have diversified. one latest craze has been for "dirty" American food. this term reveals the idea that fatty burgers and messy beef buns are so right because they are so wrong. along with these forbidden, yet readily available pleasures, are all the righteous foods that we are being offered to redeem our eating sins; these include raw, natural and "clean" foods. clean eating came to life when the BBC Good Food website gave the category its own section. clean eating is claimed to have miraculous healing powers, with food becoming medicine and recipes prescriptions. but its proposal goes beyond physical health with claims that eating well is good for the soul too.…show more content…
previously people were considered "clean" once they had washed with a generous amount of soap. however the definition of "clean" has verified. people now associate being "clean" with eating healthy food only. so no processed or refined foods such as white flour, sugar, bread and pasta, no preservatives, colour additives, toxins, stabilizers, emulsifiers and fat replacers. you are also required to drink at least two litres of water a day, while eating six times a day. this is a long list of foods to avoid and a lot of unnecessary responsibility we place on ourselves in an attempt to be as healthy or as skinny as our favourite
