The problem of climate change is a problem of our generation! It is in fact an inter-disciplinary problem that underpins our lives, our economy and our planet. Wikipedia describes climate change as “the change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time”. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) defines it as “a change of climate that is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity, altering the composition of the global atmosphere”. Climate change was triggered by human activities and the rest is history!
Climate change and global warming are synonymous with each other. In fact the two terms are used interchangeably.

Like the average temperature of air over the land is increasing. Failed crops, low water supplies, frequent and severe droughts support the observation. Floods, hurricanes etc. are caused by increased air temperatures over oceans. The shrinking of sea ice in the arctic and the melting of glaciers suggest that global warming is on surge! As glaciers are melting the sea level has risen drastically. Alaska’s permafrost is thawing and this has led to an increase in the level of water causing the region to sink. The Copenhagen summit of 2009 was an extension of the Kyoto protocol.
The Doha climate gateway stated that few Asian countries have to commit themselves to reducing carbon emissions.
The United Nations climate change conference and the Paris agreement have resulted in the adoption of Paris agreement which is a vision for 2020.
Not just the United Nations conferences, but also platforms like World Economic Forum have been an arena for discussing global warming and in devising strategies to combat this phenomena.
Planet Earth gives us resources abundantly and it is the responsibility of every citizen to ensure that they give back to nature in some or the other way.
It is also the responsibility of policy makers to ensure that climate change is addressed in every debate or discussion and to formulate policies that will encourage research and development to provide clean energy solutions that will cut carbon emissions.
