China) Abstract:As the core component of five-axis CNC machine tools, the structure and performance of the universal milling head significantly determines the performance of the whole machine tools. In this paper, we simplify the unnecessary parts as point mass and add them to the model based on the finite element analysis (FEA) software ANSYS Workbench. And two steps are taken to analyze the mechanical property of the milling head when the real force condition is taken into consideration. Position of the point mass 2.2 Mapped meshing The material of the main parts of the milling head and the electric spindle is HT250 which is of excellent rigidity, and others choose structural steel. Table II shows the material properties. Then, we set materials and contact types in ANSYS Workbench and map meshes of the whole milling head by means of Patch conforming. Finally, we get tetrahedron meshes, and there are 389077 nodes and 224744 elements. Fig. 4 shows the mesh model of the milling head under working condition 1.
