By: Brian Goracke 5/25/17 Mike Kryzewski also known as “Coach K” is the second most winning basketball coach in college basketball history. He is the head coach of the Duke blue devils men’s basketball team and has won 5 national championships. He is also the head coach of the United States National Team. As a head coach he won three gold medals in the Olympics. He was also the assistant coach on the 1992 “Dream Team”, led by Michael Jordan. Coach K was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 13, 1947. He was born into a catholic home under his parents Emily and William Krzyzewski. Coach K attended St. Helen Catholic High school, and later Archbishop Weber High School, which at the time was a prep school. As a child and a young man he was always around basketball. In college Coach K played under Bob Knight at the United states Military Academy at west point in New York. He is known for his winning and success with his teams. But he has also impacted so many people in a positive way. By developing players not only as basketball players but also as people. He is a very generous man who has shared his wealth with other charities and has made many donations to schools and other organizations. He has won citizen ship awards for his actions and is a very well-liked and important part of his community. People look up to him and he is a role model to many people including me. That is why I want to be a coach. I don’t to just want to be a coach for the money or fame but I want to be a role model for kids and make a difference in people’s lives. As a coach you have the power to either negatively affect your players or you can have a positive impact and create friendships and relationships that can last a life
