Basketball is temporary but knowledge is forever. Kareem said that was a moment that changed his life forever. One of Coach Wooden’s famous quotes is The best competition I have is against myself to become better. This quote is basically

I think that quote is very powerful because it relates to people's everyday life like you have to be a better version of yourself everyday. Coach Wooden has always been taught to help people no matter what. Coach Wooden used basketball to touch so many people's lives by just using the seven basic principles . Those seven basic rules are 1. Be true to yourself. 2 Help others. 3 Make each day your masterpiece. 4 Drink deeply from good books, Especially the bible. 5 Make friendship a fine art. 6 Build a shelter against a rainy day by the life you live. 7 Pray for Guidance and Counsel, and Give Thanks for Your Blessings Each
Day. Coach Wooden was given those principles by his father who died in 1950. The book of
Coach Wooden has a bunch of inspirational quotes that anybody can apply to their lives. Coach
Wooden is a wonderful man and the story of his life and his faith is incredible to read. If you are interested in a book that teaches you this stuff I would highly recommend it. I'm only half way through the book and I already like this book because it gives me a whole different perspective on life like how I do stuff differently and how I think differently throughout my day. This
Wes didn’t start off on the right path initially, due to the friends he surrounded himself with such as shea, a young drug runner, and the low standards he set for himself academically, which Author Wes mentions that he was “disappointed with D’s, pleasantly satisfied with C’s and celebratory about a B I allowed my standards at school to become pathetic” (Moore 54). He allowed a fixed mindset of mediocrity along with his environment to almost determine his life path. Without social capital, Author Wes Moore would’ve been doomed for failure but the intervention by his mother, a few of her friends and his grandparents, he was able to attend Valley Forge Military Academy where he was able to benefit from the effects of social capital from his superiors and peers in the form discipline, comradery and leadership. From there, he totally changed his perspective as he developed a growth mindset which was fairly evident when he realized that basketball wasn’t in his long term plans; Wes states “When you step on the court with players like Kobe Bryant or six foot eight point guards who can dunk from the free throw line, your mind begins to concentrate on other options” (Moore 130), that moment of clarity showed the benefits of social capital and a strong growth mindset. Another instance of social capital being beneficial in Author Wes Moore’s life is when he was granted a scholarship to attend John Hopkins University.
Coach Rockwell was seriously ill, and their new coach did not appeal to them. What stuck out to me during this book was the theme that the author was trying to convey. Even when times get tough, that doesn’t mean you should quit; you should push on because it will pay off. “Chip was really bugged now, but he kept quiet, resolved to play as hard as he knew how,” (Bee 126). Before this, Coach Brasher was screaming his lungs out at Hilton for not going 100 percent.
Also that it is okay if it takes you time to accept your adversity or what you are going through. To conclude, what can be learned by these athletes is persistence, to stay positive, and acceptance. The athletes were both persistent when facing their adversity, but different in the way they acted at
The article, “CJ2K:The Hard Way” written by Alan Shipnuck. The article is inherently about Chris Johnson (a famous football player for the Arizona Cardinals). Starting, about his old problems with his team and children and how he got through it in a full-hearty way. Later on, it talks about how he practices countlessly and on how he always tries to score so high leading to his goal to have to make a rush for 2,000 yards (which is a gigantic goal in football). Which you can see that he is determined to do great (in football), and that he will not do arrogant things when in trouble.
1. What kind of book is this? List three evidences of this. This book is an autobiography that was written by Coach Matt Deggs.
When we believe that we can succeed, then our background would not be able to hold us down. Consistency is the rule of the game Ray Charles had a career that spanned almost 5 decades. One of the things that made him rise to the top of his career was his consistency. He kept to his music and kept honing his skills to match the changing times.
John was seen by the public as a nice guy, but what made him special was that he could take any group of guys and get consistent wins. Wooden severed in the Navy as a lieutenant surfing World War ll. After serving in the war, he took the coaching job as a basketball for the University of California. Wooden took the job while no one would step up to the task. The reason no one wanted the job was because the team did not have an arena to play in, and did not have other facilities.
This quote makes you think about how you treat other women and how other women treat you. And how this affects the future and how it reflects the past. This concept is success by help or making you connect what you're reading to real-life. In sum,the successfulness of the speech benefits the strategies and the influence of the setting.
If we were to look back, the leader or coach we respect most is the one who pushed us to be that greatest that we could be. Although we did not like being pushed at the time, being told we could give more is often what teams need in order to succeed. Herb Brooks pushed his players to believe that they had greatness within them. His players, including many other people did not believe at first. But his players later came to believe because their coach believed.
Cameron Rice Mrs. Schlichting English A2 May 5, 2015 Why Magic Johnson is the Greatest Sports Player of All Time Magic Johnson once said “I have to tell you, I’m proudest of my life of the court. There will always be great basketball players who bounce that little round ball, but my proudest moments are affecting people's lives, effecting change, being a role model in the community”(Magic Johnson Quotes). A lot of people don’t know who Magic Johnson is and what he did. He not only changed the face of sports and changed many people's lives with his decision.
Owosso High School’s head boy’s basketball coach, David Owens, is a small town legend in his own right. With over 20 plus years of college and high school basketball under his belt, he has had the privilege to work under the supervision of Michigan State’s head basketball coach, Tom Izzo, and Indiana University’s Bob Knight, as an assistant video coordinator for each program. Throughout the interview with Mr. Owens, he explained how basketball has not only impacted his life, but also the lives of his wife and three children. When asked, “What challenges have you faced as a coach?” Mr. Owens’s first response was “time.”
Another quote he uses to get his point across is ¨one has no choice but to do all in ones power to change that fate and at no matter what risk eviction imprisonment
I think Garrett Morgan has had one of the most impactful sayings I’ve ever heard. “If you can be the best, then why not try to be the best.” , Morgan
Lastly, people must rid themselves of any bad and unhealthy ideals. They must not feel pressured by the media, friends, family or external sources to change themselves and pursue activities that they feel uncomfortable about and are not right. They must not succumb to people’s expectations and unhealthy ideals, but instead set high (but reachable) standards for themselves to keep improving and being better. They must realize that they don’t have to be perfect and suit what everyone think of them, but instead feel comfortable in their own skin and set healthy standards to keep improving instead of being
