Code of Ethics Discussion A code of ethics document serves to explain how I as a person act and interact with others. This includes the main values through which I express myself; however, that isn’t enough to understand the meaning of each value, its origin, and context. To get this better understanding I will be describing each value, what did it stem from, and the context by which I believe it pertains to and applies. The values by which I adhere to are as follows: freedom of choice, privacy, innovation, respect, and responsibility. Freedom of choice to me is the ability to learn about my choices in any circumstance and make a decision on these choices without being hindered or controlled by any other person or entity. Through it I am able to take responsibility and control over my actions. Through it I am ready and excited to participate in new experiences. This value has been enforced by a professional role model that I have been in recent contact with; his name is Steve Gibson who is a computer science researcher working on many projects that are very close to my personal interests. I learned from him the power of freedom of choice and understanding the repercussions of my choices. Given that I believe that everyone should have the freedom of choice I must also believe that a person is responsible for these choices. And to be responsible is to accept any outcome of your actions without casting the blame on someone else or your personal condition. Through this value a person is able to maintain a sense of self. This sense helps express my values clearly and decisively. This value stems from my experiences growing up. My parents and older brother have always encouraged me to take action but to also take responsibility for my actions: if I ever caused trouble or did well in school I would take responsibility for these actions.This would become ingrained in me and become of my code of ethics by which I have been guiding my life with. And as Mr.s Roosevelt famously said: “One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes. In the long run, we shape our lives and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And, the choices we make are ultimately our own
