The ACM, also known as the Association for Computing Machinery, is an organization built to join computing educators, professionals, and researchers in tackling common problems in the field. Created in 1947, the Association was born out of an increased interest in computing, that began after rudimentary enigma machines were used by the Allies in WW2, and meetings at top tier universities demonstrated the capabilities of computers. The purpose of the organization, stated in 1945, was to "advance the science, development, construction, and application of the new machinery for computing, reasoning, and other handling of information.” Of course, as with any creation of a professional society, there is a code of ethics created along with it, fine-tuned …show more content…
The first is point 1.4, which is “be fair and take action not to discriminate”, and the second is 2.6, “accept only those responsibilities for which you have or can obtain the necessary expertise, and honor those commitments”. Sub point 1.4 has a short line that could be easily read over, but I feel may be the most important line of the code. It reads, “Technologies should be as inclusive and accessible as possible”. This line is why I feel that advancing technology is the most important thing I can do with my life. At the root, the point of technology is to make life better. It makes communication easier, it makes decision making easier, it aids in the everyday activities of humans. So, for technology to be developed in such a way that only certain groups are being able to access it, is discriminatory and simply wrong. Every human regardless of “age, color, disability, ethnicity, family status, gender identity, military status, national origin, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, or any another factor” deserves to reap the benefits that technology provides, and this should be considered in the basis of all decision making when it comes to developing new technology. The other sub point, 2.6, is more relevant to me personally, rather than an overarching opinion I have on society. I have always felt pushed to do more, work harder, achieve higher, and for the most part I do a good job at …show more content…
This code is written in such as a way that it looks at the world through the individual. The general moral principles include preventing “any potential harm to the local or global environment”, but only instruct individuals on how to conduct themselves. There is no need to be loyal to a “middle man”, or a company. If the code was to focus on creating loyalty to companies, it would be redundant and inefficient. There would need to be code written for companies, regarding how they should ensure their employees conduct themselves. At that point, it’s back down to the individual person. Impact does not happen at the level of a company, ethically speaking. It must come from within the employee. The code does advocate for leaders within a company to create a positive work environment, which we can infer will create a company that employees feel loyal to, but the code does not refer to loyalty to the company specifically or directly. Humans, on an individual basis, are what drive all operations in life, regardless of where their loyalty lies, if anywhere at

The NAADC Code of Ethics provides guidance for individuals in the addictions behavioral health field to perform as honest and virtuous professionals. The regulations are the criteria of behavior for addiction experts.
NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment (Appendix A) The administrators role in implementing Section I: Ethical Responsibilities to Children, is by ensuring that each child is in a safe and healthy environment, where each child’s needs are met. An ideal important from this section is 1-1.9, which states that each child whether disabled or not, has the same support services to succeed. This is important in the field of early childhood education, because each child has the right to learn, and succeed. It is a law that no child is left behind, and can receive the appropriate tools necessary to reach their full potential, whether disabled or not.
However, we must also keep in mind that they are humans as well and they will make mistakes at certain points in life. As Boyd says, “Protecting” kids undermine the learning that teens need to do as they come of age in a technological world. To back up this point, she uses the example of a community relying on technology to a safe extent. She explains that the safest neighborhoods were those not relying on restricted surveillance or keeping everyone restricted but became successful due to everyone's willingness to be involved within the technology at a humane extent. She also ensures the readers that technology is the definition of freedom plus communication to a
I enjoy reading your post; you provided sound knowledge of the ACA and NAADAC Code of Ethics. “The NAADAC Code of Ethics was written to govern the conduct of its member and it is the accepted standard of conduct for addiction professionals certified by the National Certification Commission.” Therefore, it is the responsibility of the addiction professional to safeguard the integrity of the counseling relationship and to ensure that the client is provided with services that are most beneficial. In all areas of function, the addiction professional is likely to encounter individuals who are vulnerable and exploitable. In such relationships he/she seeks to nurture and support the development of a relationship of equals rather than to take unfair
Technopoly can lead to many consequences that are not beneficial to a society Neil explains well throughout the article giving reasons of why certain information should be excluded from people. He gave examples from his own experience and also from centuries ago. Overall I felt Neil did his job by stating his point and giving information on his article that convinced the reader to see his point of view and understand the negatives of technopoly in a
Modernization of technology limited the freedom to think for one’s self. It has caused the people of the world to rely solely on orders and rules without thinking of the consequences of those actions. The technology once used to enhance your daily life, now runs it. All people who have succumbed to the advancement of technology have given up their freedom to think, and their ability to live life like it was meant to be lived.

Today’s society has adjusted to technology in ways that make it hard to think of the circumstances without the privilege of technology. The effect of this creates a strict order that can be used as the “right way of living.” Before putting in the variable of technology the same thing happens, only there is just one “way of living.” That’s where they needed a minor change because although their system of running the society was functional, it wasn’t fair. Technology could’ve helped sooner by taking
The North Carolina State Board of Education outlines the professional standards to which teaches should uphold within, and even outside of, the classroom. These standards are comprised of the commitment to the student, commitment to the school, and commitment to the profession. Also, the Code of Ethics includes the professional conduct which entails, honesty, the acknowledgement of the rights of others, keeping information confidential, and compliance of criminal laws (NC State Board of Education, 1998). Ultimately, the NC Code of Ethics is a set of rules in which teachers must uphold during their career. Discussion Commitment to the Student
This article on ethics was really interesting and a dilemma that is prevalent within criminal justice. In the article Dr. Steven Davis recognized that students cheating in high school increased by 20% in the 1940 to 75% today. Davis stated, "If students lack ethics in high school and college, then there should be little surprise that they lack ethics in their careers. (2008). " This observation by Davis holds some value, because individuals that is willing to cheat to get ahead, definitely has no problem crossing ethical lines, because in their mind the wrong is acceptable, just as it was when they cheated.

Core Values and Ethical Principles The six core values recognized by the NASW Code of Ethics are: service, social justice, dignity and worth of person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence (NASW, 2008). These values are defined and expanded upon, and are then listed as ethical principles. Several of these principles apply to this case.
When reading the IAMFC Code of Ethics and AAMFT Code of Ethics I found that they compare significantly, much more than they contrast. Many of the principals coincide. For example, the topic of multiple relationships is one of the many principles that parallel in many codes of ethics. The IAMFC Code of Ethics encourages family counselors to “avoid whenever possible multiple relationships, such as business, social, or sexual contacts with any current clients or family members” (Section A). Similarly, the AAMFT Code of Ethics also requires that therapists “make every effort to avoid conditions and multiple relationships with clients that could impair professional judgment or increase the risk of exploitation.
ETHICAL ISSUES ABOUT MILLIKAN'S CASE Engineers should have some fundamental characteristics without their position, job or wage. Because, engineers build the future of society, so if these developers of society would not have basic rules, it causes to stop developing both technology and science. An engineer has responsibilities to the public and other engineers. Some of those and behaviors that should an engineering exhibit are entitled as Codes of Ethics. In time, some foundations established to standardize these responsibilities and rules of being a good engineer.
It is a very clear argument for how the internet and technologies are harming us through many ways. Firstly, some of them said tablet devices led to some problems in our societies. Such as, isolation and turning inward and not to engage in the society around them and reduce physical activity, that leading to serious diseases such as obesity. (Mares & Woodward, 2005). The second argument is led to a lack of social skills.
