Code-switching may be defined as the unique passage from one linguistic code/language/dialect to another during the same conversation or it can be defined precisely as exchange of speech during same conversation .speech may belong to , two different grammers and the sub catigories of grammars.some times it is described as passage .a passage which lead one to mix or exchange different languages. Gumperz was among the pioneers who express the idea that code switching is a real, sepecific discourse and communicative strategy for bilinguals.it must be remembered that we use the word “bilingual” to define someone who is able to communicate in a two or more than two languages. Hence, it may be effective for the school teachers and students to have classroom proceedings by adopting two codes, i.e., Urdu and English languages. In bilingual classrooms worldwide, using code switching is a frequent practice. Extensive research has been carried out on using code switching in the classroom as a contextual cue.such contextual cue provide phonological, lexical and syntactic options to different types of code switching ,code mixing and style shifting. Keeping in view the world wide use of code-switching or code-mixing it is important to conduct study of this particular area to know the opinions of the teachers and students of public schools. 1.2 Objectives of the study
The main objectives of the study are to: 1. Investigate the use of code-switching at secondary school level for the teaching and learning of English..
2. Find out the importance of code-switching for better teaching and learning of English language at school level.
3. Determine inclination of teachers teaching English at secondary level and students towards the need of code-switching for the teaching and learning of English language in the present educational scenario.
