I have the ability to engage in effective social work practice as I have been exposed to many settings which have provided me the groundwork build my competencies. I have been in a school setting to which I was providing individual and group therapy for students ages 5 through 18. I utilized cognitive behavioral therapy worksheets which are evidence-based and recognized the changes in some students. I ensured that the worksheets utilized were appropriate for whichever age group. During my time in the hospital setting, I built my skills in assessing client needs and coordinating with many community organizations for needed resources. Upon completing this program I plan to work with individuals seeking support, guidance, and personal growth. To fortify this work, I intend to attain clinical licensure. Although social work practices can ameliorate client troubles, I would also like the ability to find possible solutions within diagnoses, further evaluation, and treatment. Utilizing the Advanced Clinical Practice concentration offered in this program will allow me to become familiar with working in clinical settings and apply my coursework knowledge to real work situations. A crucial piece I look for when entering an academic program or workplace is the ability to create real, tangible change.

Origin Behavioral therapy came from three different countries in the 1950’s. The United States (Skinner), South Africa (Wolpe’s group), and The United Kingdom (Rachman and Eysenck). When it comes to Extinction, it is one of the techniques that come from the Operant Conditioning developed by B.F. Skinner. According to Erford (2015), extinction is a classic behavioral technique based on punishment that involves withholding reinforcements in order to reduce the frequency of a specific behavior.
Working in the social service field is also an option. Two years later, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. I applied for a Family Service worker position at an elementary school and got an interview. When I was in the Interview, one of the questions the interviewers asked was Why do you want to practice social work, and why do you want to work with children. I told them of my family’s past experience with foster care, and about this awesome social service worker.

I have recently been trying to improve by working on my communication and positive self-talk. Professionally, one area that needs to be addressed and further developed is my ability to divide between my personal life and professional career as a social worker. Growing up with foster siblings and going through the grieving stages when both my grandparents passed from cancer months apart have impacted my boundaries professionally. To become a sufficient social worker, I will have to learn and fully acknowledge my judgements as a social worker nonrelated to my own experiences. Another professional weakness I face is my ability to effectively communicate with clients to a professional extent.
