Colin Kaepernick 'Preparing For The National Anthem'

Fruitvale station is movie that tackles the stereotypes of racism, police- brutality and poverty all in the matter of 85 minutes. Based on a true story, the movie follows its protagonist Oscar Grant III in his final hours leading up to his death. Grant was brutally shot by police officers in Hayward California on New Year’s Day 2009. Fruitvale station depict his everyday life and centers around him and his family and the effects situations such as poverty, racism and police brutality can have on certain demographics. It also shows that sometimes all three are intertwined.

In discussion of country’s ideal, a controversial issue has been if kneeling during the national anthem is disrespectful or not. On the one hand, many argue that they are expressing their first amendment rights. On the other hand, many people believe it’s disrespecting our nation 's ideals and the people who fight for our freedom. My own view is that it is not disrespecting the country’s ideals if the country is not living up to the ideals itself. While people believe kneeling during the National Anthem is disrespecting the country 's ideals, I believe kneeling during the National Anthem is not disrespectful. The United States is not living up to its ideals of freedom, liberty, and justice for all no matter their race. Athletes are bringing awareness by a peaceful protest, which is protected under the first amendment for those who are oppressed.

Use of force is the amount of force used in a given situation during police work. The police are supposed to follow the continuum when it come to using force. This continuum is known as the “Use of Force Continuum”. Despite this, use of force is still a constant problem in policing. There are many cases where a cop are sued for using more force than necessary, sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident. It can be hard to prosecute a cop for these actions due to the constant state of threat a cop’s life is at while doing their job and the unpredictability of their job.

Americans have been conducting peaceful demonstrations for years. These demonstrations are almost always held in protest of an important cause. Sports figures also protest for different causes they feel strongly about. However, because they are in the spotlight, sometimes these public figures are not treated equally when they try to voice their opinion about a cause. One such cause is the correct tribute to our country's song. As a result, they are often punished for openly expressing themselves. Consequently, sports figures, such as professional athletes, should not be penalized when some choose not to stand for the National Anthem.

In today's society, it is not uncommon for police officer misconduct, including brutality, to gain everyone's attention. When one officer shoots and kills a suspect, that officer is investigated in order to ensure there was no intentions to harm anyone but to try and keep the peace. Intentional harm to citizens is considered police brutality and can escalate into something more serious such as riots and protests. Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback of the San-Francisco 49ers, chose not to stand for the National Anthem at a recent National Football League game. Instead, he decided to express his unhappiness with the way African Americans are being treated by police, by kneeling to the ground. This was his form of protest and attempt to convey his message about how he felt. Kaepernick does have the right to not stand for the National Anthem, however, it is disrespectful. People fight for our freedom, so why disrespect those men and women and an NFL game was not the right time or place to hold his protest.

Nancy Armour a writer for USA Today explained why Kaepernick took a knee over racism and discrimination because, “people don’t like to address that and they don’t like to address what the root of this protest is”. What Armour is explaining is that most people don’t want to address a problem at all and when there is a problem as big as racism in the present most wont deal with it. I think there could be better ways that to get the point across than Kaepernick did; on the other hand, it did spark a lot of talk about the subject and bring it to the eyes of the public. His looks make people want to kill him, which makes Shrek isolate himself from in his swamp. So what exactly is the theme of the story? Well, Shrek was always judged by society because he’s simply an ogre. Him wanting to marry the human version Fiona would be looked down upon since he’s an ogre and she’s a human. Judgment is huge part of the society Shrek lives in. This judgement is similar to how the Puritans reacted when they encountered an outsider or someone who’s different. The Puritans were a group of Protestants who wanted to purify their church.

In “MLK Freedom Rides Speech” MLK argues that we should always use peaceful methods to have change. In contrast, in “By Any Means Necessary” Malcolm X argues we should use peaceful methods but if violence is used upon us we should also fight back with violence. Indeed, some argue that if we are using peaceful methods and violence is being used upon us we should fight back with violence while others believe we should fight back with peace. Violence doesn 't solve nothing it just gets more people killed. Ultimately, Activists should use peaceful protests and methods to protest for Police Brutality.

As the melody of the national anthem fills the stadium on a Sunday night, the fans once there to support the NFL, neglect the game entirely, as they eagerly await the decisions of the players to either kneel or stand while the anthem plays. Sparked by the initial protest made by Colin Kaepernick, multiple players have “taken a knee” during the national anthem as a means of peaceful protest. Through her open letter addressed to the NFL, Taya Kyle utilizes repetition, rhetorical questioning, and a brief narrative in order to convey how the NFL and the protests have divided America.

Both of the professional quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick and Tim Tebow are known for taking a knee on the field, but for very different reasons. Tebow kneels on the field giving thanks in prayer, while Kaepernick kneels during the national anthem in protest. Tebow is a proud member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a pro-life spokesperson. Kaepernick has become a philanthropist and activist who protests injustice against African-Americans (“ON THEIR KNEES”). The other is concerned with public sins like racial discrimination. One preaches a gospel of personal salvation. The other preaches a gospel of political and social transformation. One is reading the Epistles of Paul. The other is reading the Minor Prophets. One is listening to Eric Metaxas and Franklin Graham. The other is listening to William Barber and John Perkins. One is rallying at the March for Life. Is there really justice in America? Where is the justice for all the victims of police brutality? Why are the police officers always getting off easy for doing unjust actions towards blacks? Where is the justice for Rodney King, Alton Sterling, Michael Brown Jr., Eric Garner, Sean Bell, Tamir Rice? Those are just some of the victims who have died in the hands of officers from being beaten or shot to death for minor crimes or just being a person of color. The reasoning to my questions is that we always find excuses for police officers for their unjust actions.
