I have been surrounded by books all my life, that makes me one of the lucky ones as I developed an appreciation for books, information, and stories at an early age. Birthdays, Christmas, every holiday was an excuse for my grandfather or another relative to give me a book. My room contained multiple book shelves that needed frequent weeding, due to the lack of space for newer arrivals. I believed, due to my love of reading, that I was meant to become a writer, and some writing awards in my high school years supported that. However, four years of getting my Bachelor degree in English (with an emphasis in Creative Writing) only taught me that I love books and that I am an excellent tutor to my peers and children. The next step was using that initial degree to pursue a Master’s in Education so I could become an English teacher. I could combine my love of books and passion to impart knowledge to help others develop a desire to read. Halfway through this degree, I got a job at the Roger’s library, and then everything clicked into place.
While I love to help young adults with their studies, I also have a strength in helping them find their niche in literature. I learned how to find them books that would best suit individual students and

Northwest Arkansas is in need of school librarians. They need people with both the background in education, as well as a background in library science. I was always taught to go look something up when I do not have the knowledge of something, and now a background in library is something I need to learn. I want to pursue a degree in Library and Information Science so that I may help patrons, especially young adults, find whatever it is they are looking for. It is not necessarily a book that a librarian helps a patron with, because a librarian is a source of information and a
Every day, multitudes of things are competing for our attention. Billboards line every street, commercials interrupt every enticing program, and our phones are constantly beckoning us to check them. And no, this is not the beginning of another trite piece of literature that is going to complain about how the growth of advertising and technological innovation is the decline of the human race. In fact, I embrace it. The world is changing, and with so much to be involved in, competition for our attention is healthy and necessary to keep things that we want to see accessible.
Although I have preferences for books, nothing went wasted and I have a great literary library retained in my head. Although sometimes I still struggle when reading and writing to interpret and express myself I believe there is always room for improvement and that I have come a far way from the very beginning of time. Now that I am in college, I have a lot to learn and still have not seen much yet, and I definitely see myself becoming as literate as ever 4 years
I have an innate curiosity for how things work. Whether it’s researching the mechanisms of metastasis in cancer cells or learning about how mutations in a single gene can cause disorders that affect the entire body, I have always been fascinated by what causes things to happen the way they do at the molecular level. This curiosity, coupled with my admiration for intimate doctor-patient relationships, fueled my aspiration to become a physician. Through shadowing a hand surgeon and a gynecologist and volunteering at nursing homes, I have engaged with many patients and listened to their unique stories. These experiences have further deepened my interest in medicine and my desire to become a physician.
From a wide array of experiences and opportunities in my life, I have solidified my belief that studying a course in physics or natural sciences (with a focus on physical sciences) is the ideal direction to accomplish my goals of becoming a successful physicist. Experiences ranging from a science related summer school to discussions with a teacher who worked on a nuclear powered aircraft carrier have all pushed me to the realization that I am passionately committed to physics. I also believe my rigorous academic record proves that I would be successful in studying this course at the university level. In high school, I worked closely with my counselor to ensure that I would take every advanced science and mathematics course available.
What excites me most about a degree in Modern Languages is to get the opportunity to further develop my knowledge of foreign literature, culture and history. Different languages and cultures have always fascinated me. This is because whilst travelling to different countries I have found that even with a basic vocabulary I was quickly able to integrate myself within a foreign community. Somebody once told me that after 12 months spent in France, you will actually begin to dream in French and I cannot wait to find out if that is true. French has been such a pleasurable language to learn, although it is incredibly structured, I find that the spoken word is romantic and melodious.
Education is often viewed as a pursuit purely of knowledge or prestige; however, its true purpose may often be overlooked. Through its promotion of awareness and understanding of world issues and constructs, education stimulates more open and analytical minds which, with proper and patient application, become capable of influencing positive world change. I believe that, with my own proper preparation, I will become a catalyst to this change through teaching. As a part of my life’s goal to spread worldliness and altruism through teaching, I believe that pursuing success in both rigorous language classes and volunteer opportunities in high school, followed by educational instruction courses in college, will allow me to fulfill such aspirations.
I have always wondered how technology can be beneficial to mass people. The thought of inventing something that can help thousands of people has always fascinated me. That’s why, after completing my graduation in Computer Science, I had decided to pursue higher studies focusing on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). This thought that, by working in HCI, I will be able to design for people and the result of my hard work will bring about a positive impact on someone’s life, motivates me. HCI actually helps to bind people and technology together and this combination along with the satisfaction makes it an ideal research area for me.
I am an exchange student from Brazil and one of the biggest challenges for me was to find my place in this world, to discover my vocation. Ever since I began considering new alternatives for my university education, I have been convinced that I should study a particular course that was truly interesting for me. Therefore, I knew that I wanted to study Tourism and applied for InHolland University in the Netherlands. Currently two years later, I feel pleased and satisfied with my decision. While studying Tourism Management, I have gained much knowledge both in a professional and personal aspect.
I have been at IUPUC for two years now, but I have learned a lot between the two years. My first year I was more nervous of course but I learn to use my time wisely and get my priorities straight. Coming out of high school we don’t realize how important it is to use our time wisely because we get so much time in the classroom, so be sure to always limit the time you have away from academics. To be sure I was putting the most of my time into the most important things.
Ever since elementary school, I have excelled in both my science and math classes. I never really had any trouble understanding mathematics; I just imagined the problems in my head and solved them. In fact, I was so good at it, I was hired as a tutor for students who did not perform well in their mathematics courses. My school saw my talent and passion for mathematics and I was given the honor of representing my school for the district math competition every year. Math came naturally for me, so I did not feel the need to study for the subject at all.
La Salle College High School prides itself in raising young men who are well-rounded and industrious in every manner. They expect each of their students to develop especially in eight qualities of themselves: intellect, accomplishment, faith, compassion, service, justice, integrity, and respect. Of these eight, I believe that the quality of intellect has come most naturally to me. However, I do not see intellect as solely being intelligent or having the ability to expand your knowledge easily, but more importantly, the drive and passion to learn. Ever since I was young, I have always been very interested in math, science, geography, and the world around me.
I do not imagine myself as anything less than ultra successful, so I must transition to more educational books. Incorporating reading into my daily routine is way overdue, but it is better late than
When I was in elementary school, I used reading and writing as an outlet. I was fascinated, not only by the plot lines, but by the form of expression itself. I decided at an early age that my future career would revolve around literature, with me as the world renouned author, following footsteps of J.K. Rowling and Rick Riordan. This belief carried me into middle school, when I enrolled in a humanities magnet program, and was given the opportunity to discover what being a patron of the written arts fully entailed. Despite meticulous planning on my part about my future education and career, my passion for reading and writing is not what will define me as a member of the labor force.
I read so many books on various subjects, which opened my world to so many possibilities. Books took me around the world, I did not feel lonely, I began to accept my difference, and I decided to pursue some of the hobbies that I read about. I ask my mother for piano lessons and she obliged. Learning to play piano was frustrating; reading sheet music was boring, and adjusting my nine finger left hand and short arm to fingering the keys was often times uncomfortable. Nonetheless, by fifth grade I became pretty good at playing piano and even better at reading sheet music.
Growing up, I didn 't always love to read or to do anything with literature. I used to think that people who loved to read were the super smart students and I would envy them because they got to enjoy reading while I would often struggle with the texts. In Elementary school, I remember we would have to do assessments to see where we were when it came to our reading level and I would dread that day because I always felt like I was reading not at my grade level. However, it wasn’t until I was placed in this program by one of my teachers when my love for reading began to take off. At first, it was weird when the classroom that I was placed with barely had any students but they explained to us that they were there to help excel with our reading.
