Significant Person Essay
My dad has influenced me greatly over the years. When I was too young to understand his mortality, I found him godlike. His infinite knowledge of the world has unfortunately diminished since then. Despite this he has always been someone I aspire to be, and I hope he will continue to be.
From a young age, my father conditioned me to have an interest in cars. I remember when he took me to a swap meet for the first time, and the sharp sweeping lines of a Corvette caught my eye. I was somewhat disappointed when he never bought anything at those annual swap meets, though once he began acquiring parts for the 1930 Ford Model A he is restoring, I did not enjoy being the mule carrying heavy pieces of what my mom colloquially refers to as “junk” back to the car. Once he

In an accident I would have been maimed, and a crash at highway speeds would have impaled me with the steering column. The drum brakes were barely adequate enough to stop the four thousand pound car. Despite this my dad still trusted me enough to allow me to drive it.
The Buick was in decent condition especially considering it had been on the earth for 54 years by the time my Dad’s name was on the title. The original baby blue paint was still intact and shined nicely after being waxed, though the hood had seen its share of hailstones and rust was beginning to eat holes in the rocker panels. Most importantly, the car was drivable and didn’t have any obvious problems. We ended up only replacing the worn out fuel pump before my dad sold it.
The most memorable part of that last drive was when we got out of the car and my dad handed over the keys. During the few moments we stood there, I realized how much closer the Buick had brought me to my dad. Every time we had been around the car together had been a bonding experience; from the time he brought it home until then. It felt almost as if he had originally bought the car just so I could have those experiences with
Full days at my desk, in order to meet client deadlines, left me mentally exhausted, and I craved a hands-on project for my free time. Deciding to begin a project in an area that I lacked experience in, I purchased a used car that needed work. Not wanting to buy into a project that would just bore me down the road, I purchased a BMW M3, which is a performance automobile. Starting out my quest to refurbish this neglected car, I first had to learn the basics of how to work on a vehicle. It was very difficult to actually work on the car at first because I found myself needing to make trip after trip to the store to obtain tools that I did not currently own.
People smarter than myself, have said; “Necessity is the mother of invention.” This proverb held true for the Ford Motor Company, during the late 1960s, when foreign vehicle makers started gobbling up more and more of the subcompact auto market. Ford was going through some internal changes at this time and had recently appointed Lee Iacocca president of Ford Motor Company. With Iacocca at the wheel, Ford was looking to make a splash with stylish cars being the upmost importance to Lee.
From the prohibition era 'rum runners, ' to Indycar and NASCAR, a domestic lust for powerful motorcars has long consumed the United States and other North American markets. Out of this organic love for octane, the North American car market has produced many types of vehicle which are unlike any other. One particular collection of vehicles is fondly labeled the muscle car, an automobile class of international renown that has long been symbolic of American identity and cultural heritage. These deep roots of the muscle car phenomenon penetrate to the core foundation of post-war America.
1940s Hot Rod’s Thousands of car models have been manufactured in the United States but only a select few make it to the drawing board. When cars were beginning to be a part of everyone's daily lives in the United States, some cars that were made then still have an impact on what the cars look like today. In the 1940’s, one of the most popular car trends was the Hot Rod.
When the brothers’ relationship is at a high point, the car is in acceptable shape. When the relationship is at a lull, the car’s condition reflects that by being ragged and broken. Each of the brothers acquired a large sum of money from unfortunate events that occurred in their lives. Henry got laid off from his job and was given an extra week’s pay and Lyman had cash from his insurance money when his restaurant was destroyed in a tornado. They put together their money to spontaneously purchase the car on a trip to Winnipeg.
I’m pretty sure every teen want their own car and one that is nice and update. The car lot was my favorite place to go every weekend looking for the car of my dreams. Which I know I would get because I am the only girl on my father 's side in I get whatever I want whenever I want. So when I see a black Denali truck I had to have it.
But these are obviously not the only people who have helped me. I deliberately left my parents and other family members out of the essay. Partially, this is because I believe it’s so obvious that they shaped my life. The other part is that I wanted to challenge myself to think of other people who might not normally get recognized as important people in my life.
A quote from Doctor Seuss, “Sometime you will know the value of a moment until it become a memory.” What will your legacy be? Everyone wants to be remembered in some way. Whether it is being remembered as the lazy kid who snoozes through class, or the dedicated student who is always prepared for class. For example, a legacy to me is something that is left by a person to be remembered by.
A stiff breeze rustled the dry grass and a noticeable drop in air temperature signified autumn. Once again I sat behind that big black wheel with the Chevy emblem and cranked the key. The engine roared its deep, hot breath and the whole cab rattled with power. I backed out of the driveway and headed down to my dad’s auto shop. When I got there, he already had everything laid out - the wrenches and pliers, acetone, sanding orbital.
As a teenage boy, it is expected that I have a love for automobiles, but personally I feel there is no way to express myself other than the mental image of my car. As a young boy I always dreamed of having a Mustang, but I do not regret changing my mind at the last second away from the popular choice. The Ford Mustang is one of the most common cars where I live, and to own one would only give me another trait shared among too many people, which is why I fell in love with a BMW. Though I do not know so much about cars as an aspiring mechanic or motorhead at school, I know enough about foreign cars so people who also drive Non-American cars generally rely on me for an answer to their problem.
In middle school, I took part in an essay competition where we had to write about one of our strongest role models—who they were, what they did, and how they had influenced us. Other students wrote about Eleanor Roosevelt, Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, George Washington, etc. I, the youngest of five sisters and one of the quietest people in the school, chose Harpo Marx. I did not win the competition—to be honest, my essay wasn’t very good, and I knew that, even at the time. I had bigger, better things to worry about, though.
In this speech, I will address how my main influences have affected my life. My main influence is my family. My mother, father, and younger sister. My family has been my greatest influence from the beginning.
A Significant Moment of Communication There are many changes that can happen in a person’s life. Some changes are very tiny and would not affect your life very much. However, other events could be very important and could change a person’s whole life, such as getting married, having a baby, or losing someone special. The important event that changed my life is coming to the United States to study and meeting my new class teacher.
My father told me that buying a car is one of the most fulfilling experience I will have in my young life because I can see where my money is going. Upon doing part-time works, I soon learned that earning money was not easy. Since I was also a student, I had
It was the spring I turned sixteen, I was full of excitement that I had gotten my license. I wanted to drive around wherever I went. I had just gotten a job and could not wait to be able to drive myself around. The only problem was that I did not have my own car, if I went to work, school, or to hang out with my friends I had to borrow my parent’s car. In the beginning, this was not a problem because my parent's schedules and mine rarely came into conflict.
