The Man in the Mirror “Mirror, mirror on the wall who’s the fairest of them all?” This is a popular saying from Walt Disney’s well-known fairy tale, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and has been repeated for decades by children while playing. Therefore, at a young age people begin to learn to associate external beauty with a mirror. However, over time looking in the mirror eventually takes on a completely different meaning. In fact, during freshman year in high school there was an assignment given for Honors English and it brought questions regarding who exactly was this man in the mirror. This particular writing assignment was an autobiography with a 25-page …show more content…
As a freshman, I loathed at the idea of writing a paper that required more than five pages because I honestly questioned my ability to do so. For me, writing was always extremely time consuming and that kept me from enjoying it. Therefore, I procrastinated, even to start the family ancestry research, until it was four weeks before the due date. Finally, after the initial investigation into the kinfolks there was a spark to learn more! It needs to be mentioned that throughout my life, there was always conversations regarding my father’s family history, however, my mother’s ancestors remained a mystery. This uncertainty had even generated more concern as to where my first name had originally started in the family lineage. All too often there were numerous times unfamiliar people would question this …show more content…
It was a story of my life and I was soon to be an open book! Again, this assignment revealed simple things such as birth weight, pets, and school plans, but then it also entailed more personable topics like fears, dreams, family memories and emotional times. Basically, there was no topic left untouched by the time the writing assignment was complete. While doing so there were feelings brought to the surface, both good and bad, that had not been experienced for years. One topic was the death of loved ones, even my chocolate lab named Garrett. It took me back to the very day when we had to say good-bye. On a positive note, I were able to also reminisce about a Little League Baseball All-Stars game where I scored the winning point. With this project, there was a lot of thought put into it in order to find the perfect details to vividly describe each particular moment of my life. Additionally, a large amount of time was also spent in preparing a hard copy for the teacher, especially since there is a personal lack in decent typing
“I can’t think of a topic.” That was my only thought as I began my National History Day paper last year. It had to be perfect. This was the paper that would consume my life for months. It was the third paper I was writing for this competition: two papers were already behind me, 8 pages of writing with thousands of pages of research behind them.
I picked out a topic that interested me and something that I wanted to advocate for. I think service dogs is a serious topic to cover because they’re similar to everyday medical equipment. They help people live healthier, independent lives. In contrast, I think my Be Insightful Project was harder to write because we had to synthesize our sources in every paragraph. Once I learned how to synthesize my sources, then I was able to write my paper more effectively.
Snow white says to her mirror “mirror mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” When the mirror replies and says nothing less than “of course, you Snow White”, she finds instant pleasure and demands to hear it again. This right off the bat in teaching young people that in order to succeed you must be “the fairest” or the greatest of everyone. Dr. Hardstein theorizes that traditional stories like Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella to promote the idea that if a girl is pretty enough and has fancy clothes and shoes; she will find love and popularity (Wellman). Also every time you see a female character her features are enhanced and “improved” to make her prettier.
Opportunities like this scholarship only come in a lifetime, so being able to partake in it, is such an honor. I truly contemplate that I’m qualified for this scholarship because of my past academic accomplishments and flexible upcoming goals. The day I learned about college, I generated a goal: attend a 4-year university and receive my Bachelor’s Degree of Science. I knew that my goals were not just going to be given to myself, so I started working firmly for them.
She was a beautiful woman, but she was proud and arrogant, and she could not stand it if anyone might surpass her in beauty. She had a magic mirror. Every morning she stood before it, looked at herself, and said: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who in this land is fairest of all?
Narrative essay Life throws many challenges at you, but you need to know when to tackle them and when not to. A challenge is something that Is a struggle for you and needs more attention than a problem. Now I know this from experience from the time that my baseball team was in the league finals and disaster struck out. The day was June 13, 2015. When descendants of the Benson and Collins families meet, they discuss moments when the fathers’ lineage was in question. “Pullman told her the family story of how, when her tall Uncle Phillip was courting his first wife, her observant Jewish parents didn’t believe he could possibly be a member of the tribe,” (Copeland). The use of the word “tribe” connotes the Benson and Collins families adhere to distinct traditions specific to a particular culture, and assimilation into a tribe does not necessarily lead to acceptance within the tribe. As the process of assimilating into a tribe requires considerable effort, the process of determining genetic lineage is similarly exhaustive. In the search for an individual’s ancestry, it is common for genetic detectives to turn to social networking.
I wish I was able to write about something that I enjoy. Since I write a lot for my course/assignments I do have writing assignments that I am most proud of. My 9th grade final research

Rationale: For this task, I created a diary because I think that this style of writing would be an extremely effective way to show another major character’s emotions and ideas, as it can be written from a first person perspective, giving a huge amount of insight. I based my task on a short story by Edgar Allen Poe, titled “The Tell-Tale Heart.” I chose this piece as it gives the opportunity to be very creative in my writing, but also introduces various constraints, such as writing in a similar style to Poe, and trying to avoid any plot holes. This task specifically relates to part 4 of the language and literature course, being; literature, as the stimulus text is a piece of literature, as is my piece of writing.

I am an avid notebook keeper and journal writer, so this essay seemed interesting. Lastly, I chose On Dumpster Diving because I was interested in knowing what they were dumpster diving for. I have gotten old dressers and other odds and ends from dumpsters for various DIY projects,
The Miracle Man Even today, 30 years laters, I’m still reading about how many minds I’ve saved from withering into oblivion. As I sit in my musty, red leather recliner that is as old as I am, I know my mother would be proud. I may not have been able to save her, but I have been able to save countless of others. Those millions of other people almost make up for me not being able to save her. Almost.
My Ideal Self Who/what do you want to achieve/have, why? In the shorter term (3 years), I want to graduate from HELP University’s Degree of Psychology in first-class honours. I understand claims stating such academic achievement is merely a graduation certificate, without guarantee of work opportunities. However, my aim is not motivated towards work opportunities or anything materialistic; I just want to appreciate and value every learning opportunity.
I have always hated writing about myself, and I always dreaded assignments in school where I had to describe myself. I always wanted to avoid doing these assignments because I did not want to sound narcissistic, or self-absorbed. I dislike people like that now, because I used to be one of those people. It took many lessons learned before I humbled myself; I am still learning to humble myself today with recent experiences I have had. Although I hate to write about myself, I have always liked to reflect on myself.
