Truancy is a major issue in the school system. Truant students result in lower grades, higher dropout rates, and long-term negative effects on society. I was placed on truancy at the end of my sophomore year and continue to be on truancy until this last October of my senior year. I was placed on truancy because I missed twelve day that year due to frequent illness and missed the same amount of days the next year. All the days I missed were excused, but since I went over five percent of the school days I was placed on truancy. I am a good student that always attends school unless I am sick. I am a very determined person which drove me to take high-class workloads my sophomore and junior year. I took several honor and advanced placement classes …show more content…
I understand that in 2014 they decrease the amount of days missed from 10% to 5%. Yes I agree that allowing students to miss 10% of all school days seems like a lot, but at the same time that decrease caused a lot more students to place on truancy that did not have chronic absenteeism. Another problem with the decrease is that it places more stress on doctors. When I was considered on truancy my doctor was very hesitant to allow me to stay home and rest when I was ill. Last March, I was sick for almost four weeks. I came down with a cold over spring break and then a week later I was diagnosed with bronchitis. I asked my doctor for a day off to get well and rest so I could do my best at school, but she said that the schools were pressuring her not to allow students to stay home unless it was completely necessary. My doctor had also experienced many patients coming into her office on truancy even though they were good students. The week after I was diagnosed with bronchitis, I came down with pneumonia. For a week or more I had been a carrier of walking-pneumonia and exposing my whole school to a very contagious infection. Maybe if my doctor had given me a couple day off it would not have been as
It was good idea to change the Wyandotte attendance policy, if students miss more than seven days in the last semester because most people don’t come school in their senior years. One reason that Wyandotte attendance policy should change because students will fail in their classes. Another reason that Wyandotte’s attendance policy should change because students don’t know what they learn in their classes if they did not come school. The last reason was that it’s hard for students when they went to college because they don’t know anything. In conclusion, if students did not come school in their senior years than it will be really bad for them and also they are not allowed to come in graduation
The school year my senior year has improved for both students and teachers releasing stress that the board had caused for the district. Along that, a new administration was set forth because of the sacrifices that our teachers have made to improve the quality of education for Arvada High School. But I felt that this incident had a point to show that people should pay more attention to their community and not stray ignorant of the things happening around them. I knew that that was the cause the led this situation with the board
I excel in scholarship. Throughout my high school career, I have maintained a 4.139 GPA. I consider academics to be very valuable and strive for high grades in all my classes. I’ve taken two AP classes,
Business, Science, Spanish Honor Societies- I Show Leadership and the ability to excel at a particular subject. I also do 10 hours community service for each while maintaining over a 95 GPA throughout High School. Treasurer-
You can tell I have a good work ethic because I work almost everyday after school and I even work before school some days too. For a few months I was working two jobs and was still able to participate in school activities. I am even involved in extracurricular activities after school such as baseball, strength club, gamers club, and ski club. Last year I got my first varsity letter from baseball, and this year I am hoping to get my second
Having this is a substainable attainment for the National Junior Honor Society to see about me, and that I have scholarship in me. I work my way up to the best of my ability, especially when my brain is fried. I was absent from school one day home with throat pain ( I am rarely absent) , and I completed a major project in my science cateory, turning it in early and getting a towering 94%. I work day and night, and with an educated schlarship, things get done with the highest grade I
Not only was my mom proud, but so was I. I am aware that grades are not the only criterion, but also character, leadership, and service to Waterford Mott High School NHS. I am a very shy person at first. After I am comfortable I am very outgoing and caring. As much as I love being independent I also love working with others. I believe that everyone
The dream of going to college has been present since I remember. However, I lived in a low income household in Spain, and at that time my family was going through a great depression, lack of financial stability, and my parent’s relationship was not at its best; consequently, the idea of having another expense was not a priority for the family, needless to say that college was not an option. Nevertheless, life has given me the opportunity to review my priorities, make new choices and as a result, I decided to pursue a higher education. I became a displaced homemaker after my divorce in 2008 in Washington State, when I decided to move away and start a new life in Colorado. We were only us, my daughter and me.
Throughout high school, I have not missed many days even when I am sick because I follow through with my commitment of being a student and am liable for getting my work done and being on time. Positive behavior should always be demonstrated wherever
This is what the National Honor Society hopes for in a member. I know i’m not perfect and can make mistakes at times, but acknowledging that takes a lot of character. My academic achievements are a result of my determination and drive to ensure that i’ll be able to achieve success in the future as well as serve as role model to the younger siblings and cousins in my family. Getting good grades is a priority to me. Having a XX GPA and being a Distinguished Varsity Scholar for the past 3 years didn 't happen by luck, it happened because of the sheer dedication I have towards my school and
Although my grades were not always consistent, I never earned less than a B for a final grade in my English courses. Often my instructors privately told me that my papers were the best in the class and shared my work with others. My writing secured me a free trip to London and Paris with my business club as well as my acceptance into multiple colleges. I am certain my extracurricular activities, including cheerleading, volleyball, community service projects, fundraisers and employment also played a vital role in these accomplishments. Of all the schools to which I applied, only VSU waitlisted me probably because of my phobia about standardized examinations, which caused me not to perform as well as I should have on the SAT.
Truancy The first issue I have found is truancy. This issue has recently been in the news across Texas because the law having to do with truancy has recently changed for the state. The legislature passed a senate bill and “truancy was changed from a criminal
When it comes to attending college, there is always a variety of people saying it 's the best decision one can make. On the other hand, there 's always a select few who don 't agree with the idea of actually going to college. Don 't get me wrong, college does have its advantages and disadvantages, but when it comes to creating a solid foundation of financial stability - institutes and two year programs are the best routes to go when seeking success and opportunities. Some of the perks of furthering your education after high school are that you 're able to live a more comfortable lifestyle, earn a higher income, and have endless job opportunities within the field you decide to major in. There 's always a down side when it comes to attending
My high school is highly competitive and I’m grateful that I was surrounded by such wonderful peers and teachers. Completing high school, I received 12th place out of almost 450 students, with a weighted GPA of 4.244. Despite my hard course load,
Second, I was active in school organizations and extracurricular activities. I did NJROTC, theatre, and had a job at Tractor Supply my senior year. I was applying myself to the utmost. Third, my social circle was large. I had plenty of friends, and a large majority of my school thought my YouTube channel was funny.
