College Through A Narrow Lense “At a time when going to college has never been more important, it's never been more expensive, and our nation's families haven't been in this kind of financial duress since the great depression. And so what we have is just sort of a miraculous opportunity simply by stopping the subsidy to banks when we already have the risk of loans. We can plow those savings into our students. And we can make college dramatically more affordable, tens of billions of dollars over the next decade” (Duncan, Arne). Today, American youths are facing a staggering challenge that has gotten harder with time. That challenge is where to go to college. Factors like cost, prestige, connections, location, academics, sports, housing, …show more content…
The school has specific guidelines that one must follow when choosing a computer. They recommend that one picks a computer that is either a Mac or a HP computer (Tech Specs). The school also requires that their computer has Microsoft Office on it. The students tend to use Mac computers heavily. On the tour, a protective student could go into the library and see a multitude of students working on their laptops and all of them being Macs (Tour). The teachers are also big Apple product users. That makes the technology familiar to students from Scottsburg. It also adds a sense of comfort and confidence to freshmen students. There is no software that the students are all given for free. On the other hand, there are scholarships that students can win, and they will receive a free laptop from the university (tour). In the classroom, a student may see anything from a chalkboard to a smart board. Technology is useful for the teachers when they are giving a lecture or when students are presenting projects. That being said, the classes are discussion heavy, so students will not always have to use the technology on a day to day basis. This makes DePauw different from Scottsburg, where we are always using our
Mouse and calculators were purchased for state testing, based on the needs of the school. The mouse and calculators were purchased from the general fund of the school. The Benefits of Technology in School in a Technological Society The Tennessean published Lisa Fingeroot’s article, “Nashville schools push for more technology,” in November of 2012. She discussed the benefits of technology that include, making learning fun with its inclusive methods, Fingeroot believes technology can improve the quality of education nationwide, and provides a very interactive and personal way for students to learn. She states that Kecia Ray, executive director of Metro schools’ learning technology department and president-elect of International Society for Technology in Education, has the goal of presenting a plan that provides technological access to more students. The first thing a reader notices to an article is the title.
We are a district that utilizes technology extensively. In very few districts could you walk into every classroom and see a smart board. In our county you will. Reflection: I agree that some there are quality teachers who lack technological proficiency.
As I walked into the school, I immediately noticed how old the building was. You can tell sections of the building had been there for decades as doors, lighting and rooms resembled a style more fit for the 1980’s than the 2010’s. However, additions to the building have been added to accommodate size concerns, with those sections having newer structures and being better lit. However, I did notice, at least in my classroom, students had laptops to use, though the laptops were school property.
“I have a very strong disliking for them. The school spends all their money on those laptops, meanwhile classrooms are falling apart. To me, there are bigger problems that need to be taken care of, not adjusting to this untested system.” (Lacava N.p). “..two years and beyond annual operational costs are projected to be $801 million higher, including increased assessment expense for some states” (Pioneer Institute P.g 3).
The use of technology has been one of the standard components of the curriculum for decades in Texas classrooms. The most common instructional technologies and materials used in classrooms are computers, projectors, the internet, overhead projectors, televisions, videos, models and electronic whiteboards (EWB). In todays modern society, technology abounds in our everyday lives from smartphones, iPads™, iPods™, computers, to tablets. Today’s generation of students is technology savvy and most have been exposed to these technologies from a very young age and are high motivated by them. More and more school districts are recognizing this and are aware of the importance that technology has on our society and are now integrating instructional technology
“The energy in the room is contagious as students collaborate, design, and learn by experimentation and physical involvement (Lentz 1). When a 1st grader sits at their desk and sees a worksheet and/or the cool, ew tablets, which do you think the student will be most excited about? Getting more technology will save space as well, “Limited space, supplies, and human resources” (Lentz and Boe 1). If teachers can get rid of extra supplies that the one single laptop or tablet has, it will save tons of space. Technology will save space and get young students more excited about
Continuing to grasp a higher education after getting a GED/Diploma is justification for colleges and universities to boost expectations of how going to college can put a person in a better position by using rhetoric. Despite the fun or amenities available colleges and universities are highly expensive, especially for out-of-state and international students, becoming quite stressful. On average, tuition rates could range- depending on a student’s residence- from $9,000 to $25,000 and the cost of attendance rate ranges from $25,000 to $50,000 each year (White). According to The Ohio State University, seventy percent of college students were found to be stressed about their finances (White). Most college students are not fortunate enough to earn scholarships or have the finances to pay the costs of
Instructional Design Plan Analyze Needs Assessment An effective computer training class will be provided for all staff at Lumberton Elementary School. Most teachers are not incorporating technology in their classroom. White boards and chalk boards are used to teach lessons instead of the Smart Board. Technology is advancing rapidly, therefore it is important for the teachers to be knowledgeable of the new technology.

It is a great way for them to learn. A reason why students should use technology is the technology would help them stay engaged. Most students today would most likely fall asleep in class while writing notes or the students will start distracting other students. It isn’t that these students just want to look at a screen, they want to be doing something on a computer while being able to talk and associate themselves with their friends.
Are computers in the classroom overrated? Why would Silicon Valley executives, who are at the forefront of disseminating digital technology to the world decide to take their children to schools where computers are not allowed? The Chief Technology Officer of eBay, as well as many big hitters in tech, believe that computers inhibit the development of problem-solving skills and social interaction. Ever since the adoption of computers as a teaching aid, proponents and opponents of the computer have argued over the usefulness or otherwise of computers to the learning process.
Children with specific needs can use special voice-over tool provided with laptops and tablets. Along with getting direct instruction, children can also watch videos . When watching videos children can benefit from getting a more in depth instruction on the lesson. Textbooks are limited to only pictures and text, but when using technology students grades will begin to rise. Using technology during standardized testing has shown improvements in test scores by over 20%.
The university uses many forms of technology such as textbooks, computers, and projectors or whiteboard. For years textbooks have been used in classes. They give students information on certain subjects which can provide more insight on a topic. Some professors do not provide all the needed material during their lessons and reading the text helps.
