Merriam Webster Dictionary defines evil as “sinful” or “wicked” and defines good as “kind” or “right” (“evil”)(“good”).The contrast of evil versus good plays a large role in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. From Christian symbolism to Count Dracula the good against evil theme is very prominent. Bram Stoker was a sickly child and Stoker’s mother, a charity worker and writer, entertained Stoker with fantastic stories (“Dracula”). This is probably what Stoker used to create the theme of good and evil. The heroes proved they are good rather than evil through their selflessness.

Today when people hear the word vampire they think of sexy and romantic, but why. Why has the thought of vampires changed in the recent time from Dracula to Edward Cullen? Well, that’s because of modern changes in today’s sexual repressions and how they affected the classic story of the vampire that we all know and love into what is now the modern story of the romantic vampire that we all lust for in today’s day and age.
Dear Board of Education, I am writing to express my concerns about the inclusion of gothic/horror literature like Stoker’s Dracula in our school curriculum. Gothic literature is known for its setting, mystery, suspense, and elements of the supernatural, but there has to be a limit to the elements shown. In my opinion, gothic/horror literature like Bram Stoker’s Dracula should be removed from the school curriculum. Gothic literature has many contents that are unpleasant and also have erotic themes such as sexual scenes. While I understand that some may argue that gothic/horror literature is a classic and has a big historical significance, I believe that its themes and content are inappropriate for students to be exposed to.

The methodology you describe, taking notes while reading; is not something I have accomplished in the past. My former education experience consisted of underlining too much in my text books, though taking thorough notes during lectures. I continue to regularly write notes during a Continuing Education Unit (CEU) course, lecture, or seminar. Writing my own outline of what is being spoken of, is my strength; writing notes or questions while reading literature is my deficiency. Distractions are something else I struggle with also.

At times when I read there are words that I don’t quite understand. When this happens I look up the word and see how I could use it. This also goes back to my writing, if I find a word in a book that I have read I can add it to my writing to improve my writing skills. When I see the effect of reading on my knowledge it makes me proud of myself because I used to get teased for always reading, but that didn’t matter to me because , in the end, I knew that reading would help me. All those people that teased me for always reading were probably envious of how much knowledge that I could acquire from just reading one book.
