Does the color of light affect plant growth?
1. Introduction There are many factors which influenced the growth of plants, such as: temperature, water, carbon dioxide, nutrient substance, light, and so on. These will influence the size of plant, speed of plant growth, seeds of the plants. All of them combine together to create a environment for plants to growth and reproduce. The topic of my research paper is does the color of light affect plant growth, to figure out which color of light will let the plants growth in the best photosynthesis efficiency. This problem is related to method of the plant growth, for example, which color of light can provide the best environment for plants to growth in the artificial culture. Many people had done

Blue light helps the synthesis of protein and organic acid(黄榆婷), and it is important for good plant development and the correct regulation of the pores (Harry Stijger). Red and orange light can prompt the speed of growth in order to make the plants bloom. And, blue, purple and cyan light which have short wave length can prevent the extension and grow the plants more stronger (“光照颜色对植物生长发育有何影响”). So, the most important part for plant growth is wave length of visible region. They helped to the photosynthesis to make organic …show more content…
With the increase of ultraviolet, the plants with grow in a special form. Usually, the plants on the top mountains has short stem and small leaves, that’s because the temperature is low and many ultraviolet. It can restrict the growth of plants mostly. If you use the ultraviolet light that has long wave length, the germination rate of the seeds will increased. If you use the ultraviolet light that has short wave length, it can reduce the harm to the plants and also can kill germs. Moreover, the infrared light generate the heat effect and provide the heat for the plant
In Burns Bog and Watershed Park, the light was blocked at certain times because of the cover of the trees. Light intensity affects the rate of photosynthesis as with more sunlight, more carbon dioxide can be produced for the plants to grow. The types of vegetation is affected by light intensity as when the amount of sunlight decreases, the growth decreases as well. This is why SWMA has more grass plants such as, Aster and Colonial Bent Grass. According to the Spearman's Rank Correlation Coefficient, the correlation coefficient of light intensity and Aster is 0.4.
The plant that was exposed to the light more intensely produced more bubbles. 3. What would you suggest is the function of the sodium bicarbonate?
Because carbon dioxide is absorbed by the plant during photosynthesis less carbon dioxide present in the chamber is a sign that photosynthesis is working. The four lights used for this experiment range across the light spectrum on both sides in order to test a wider variety of wavelengths. All lights will be placed directly on the spinach leaf at the same distance so as not to give any spinach leaf a different light intensity, which could affect the data. This experiment will be able to show which light, ranging across the light spectrum, will allow the Spinach to perform photosynthesis more efficiently.
Alexandra Fowler Due: 10/25/2015 Metabolism Exam Answer the following questions as completely and concisely as possible. Some answers may be a single word, but for more detailed responses, keep you answer to 3 sentences or less. What is the electron donor of an organism growing chemorganotrophically? The electron donor of an organism growing chemorganotrophically is an organic compound such as glucose, acetate, etc.
The most important result from this experiment is that it suggested that the increase of Carbon Dioxide, will drastically increase the growth mountain maple in the covered (from the sun) parts in a forest, in the meantime any increase in the temperature of the soil will nullify the increase of light, as we know is to be the main ingredient for photosynthesis. 5. The authors do not use any citations in the
However, after investigation through gel electrophoresis, the three kinds of plants were not identical. This relates to the
During the 1800-1860s, three main factors influenced cotton production to grow. The three factors were technology, resources, and demand. One of the factors that influenced the cotton production was technology. There was three inventions that helped the production of cotton. The first invention was the cotton gin by Eli Whitney.
The story was happened in 1906, at Oklahoma territory, near Tulsa. Oklahoma! was adapted from a play called Green Grow the Lilacs which was adapted from an old folksong called “Green Grow the Lilacs”. The story is about an American soldier’s love for a Mexican lass(senorita). The cowboys in south Texas loved sing the song and white Americans became known as “Gringo” by the Mexicans. Richard Charles Rogers was an American composer of music with more than 900 songs and 43 Broadway musicals.
Ted Hughes’s “To Paint a Water Lily” tells about an artist painting a scene of nature, and his choice to focus on a water lily. The poem also shows how the artist has two ways of thinking about nature. One way the artist thinks about nature is as a violent and scary thing. The artist also thinks of nature as a thing of beauty and grandeur. Though the artist acknowledges both of his views towards nature, he chooses to focus on the beauty.
The average CO2 consumption for green light was 0.00773533 ppt/min while all the other colors of light tested are equal to, or exceed 0.01651 ppt CO2 consumed per minute. Graph 1: Amount of CO2 Consumed clearly shows that photosynthesis performed most poorly under green light. Red, blue, and white light each caused more CO2 consumption than green light. Because the pigment in the green, photosynthesising chloroplasts reflects green light, there was little photosynthesis occuring while green light was being shown on spinach leaves. The green light is reflected, rather than absorbed by plants and therefore does not provide the needed sunlight energy to make photosynthesis
The purpose of the Spinach Leaf Chromatography Lab was to determine how much chlorophyll a, b and carotenes and xanthophylls the Spinach leaf contained through measuring the distance traveled by the pigments. The hypothesis the group created was that a spinach leaf contained multiple pigments. The group after doing the chromatography of the spinach leaf then determined the rate or flow of migration using Rf(Distance pigment traveled/ distances solvent 2. Materials and Methods A 2x15 strip of chromatography paper was cut so that it would fit inside the test tube. Then a point was cut in the bottom 0.5 cm of the strip.
Regarding the circumstances the plant will not grow as they do not have the ‘“sunshine” to do
Introduction Purpose The purpose of this lab is to study soil PH, soil salt concentration, osmosis and light. To identity potato weight change in sodium chloride. To determine the growth of plants scientist, farmer and business owners often work to determine the optimal conditions for their plants, which involves a variety of test and a large amount of trial and error over many years.
Research Question: How does the presence of light impact the rate of transpiration in plants? Aim: The aim of this experiment was to investigate how the presence of light affects the rate of transpiration in plants. Hypothesis: As light intensity increases, the rate of transpiration (water uptake) in a plant increases.
Introduction Plants are a major necessity in the balance of nature, people’s lives, and our terrain. We may not realize it, but plants are the ultimate source of food for almost 95% of the world population so says the National Group of Food. It’s a fact that over 7,000 species of plants are being consumed today. Plants are one of the reasons that we get clean water; as they help regulate the water cycle.
