Major General Virinder Uberoy was commissioned in the Dogra Regiment of the Indian Army in 1957. He had participated in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and anti-terrorist activities during his service tenure. The author has done his M.Sc. from Tamil Nadu University. He has been awarded doctorate in Defence Studies from Meerut University for his research on Evaluation of Armed Threat to National Security.

3. Besides the present work he has written a number of books in addition to various articles in professional magazines and national press.:-

The book “Combating Terrorism” is an attempt by the author to make the reader aware of the dimensions of the problem involved in dealing with terrorism and more so is an attempt to analyse various aspects of contemporary terrorism.

(a) The first part of the book deals with the understanding of terrorism whereas the second part focuses on finding ways and means to combat the menace effectively.

(b) In the first part, the author has made an effort to trace the origin of terrorism in the countries all around the globe and has made an effort to provide an abridged version of it. Thereafter, he has gone forward to provide in depth analysis on terrorism and causes leading to its rise.

(c) The author has also made an effort to throw light on the modus operandi of the terrorist organisations by giving in depth account of various terrorist activities.

(d) In the second part of the book, the author has focussed on the conduct of various operations to include intelligence, police operations and psychological operations against terrorism. He has also discussed four different stages of anti-terrorist measures to include their inter relationship and has suggested them to be launched concurrently for effective
