“You are something special, Joey. You will make a difference!” That is what my grandfather has said to me since I was in elementary school. He always believed in me, encouraged me, and supported me. My Pawpaw Duke is a planner, a goal setter, a provider, and a teacher. He almost died last spring and I realized how much he continues to influence people, especially me.
At the time, I did not know, that Mock Trial was going to change my high school career. During my first year as a trial attorney, I not only improved immensely in my public speaking and communication skills but also made new friends. After a successful year and great scores at two regional competitions, I was truly proud of our team's achievement. However, many members just seemed to be completely disinterested. That is when I decided to step up and ran for the Mock Trial President position with one main goal— to unite the team.
In my eighth grade year I was attending tournament held at Western Kentucky University. I won two of my three events and was debated when I got second in the other. I remember my mother saying to me, “Jack, you did so well today, yet you are not even excited about it. That really makes me sad, I thought my son would have much humility than that.” That right there… hurt. It was a true wake-up call of why I do speech and debate.

However, after three months of absolute misery, I was able to persuade my mom to visit her once a week. I would visit her every Sunday from 12-2 with my dad and my grandma. During those visits I witnessed the most heinous acts of inhumanity. Inappropriate conduct was commonplace. My mom was surrounded by criminals, people who had killed and raped.

It seemed like sometimes the owner would try to put together a decent team, and other times it seemed like the team was a tax write-off. Perhaps the owner Bill Bidwill had the best intentions when he would hire a new coach every other season but to the fans it seemed like he was just pulling names out of a hat. When Bill Bidwell decided to hand the football operations over to his football savvy son in 2007, the franchise took a positive direction. Bill Bidwill’s son, Michael, has done a good job since taking over for his father. He really got it right when he promoted Steve Keim as the new GM and managed to steal former Coach of the year Bruce Arians away from Indianapolis.
The Smoove twins Chris and Jrue have played outstanding Trevon and Andre were playing good as well but Robert and Tyron weren 't playing that good so we needed one more good guy to make this team great... And I was that guy. We won every game but one without me, the one game we lost was to the Honeybadgers. The team we were playing in the championship. The Honeybadgers have never lost, they won every single game and every single championship since our league started in 1972. (You do the math because I 'm
“Just being a really good student in high school and the way the draft works, it’s kind of hard for teams to draft a guy when you don’t know if he’s going to sign or not, which I understood completely. Looking back at it, (going to the University of San Diego) is the best decision I’ve made in my life.” Bryant went on to star for the Torero, hitting 31 homers with an OBP of .493 and a slugging percentage of .820 over 228 at-bats in his draft season. Lots of his growth took place during his three years in San Diego, an experience he valued, although he could have been bought out of school for the right
As a child I was very fortunate to have a family like my own; my parents were truly happy and wholly in love. I was incredibly close with my siblings and still am today despite our little fights. Along with being close to my siblings my father and I had a great relationship; most people who knew me would have considered me a “daddy’s girl”. Growing up my father was remarkably proud of my grades and who I was becoming as a person. Oftentimes he would brag about me to anyone who listened.
I am deeply honored to be given the opportunity to join the National Honor Society and be among some of the most exceptional students in our school. Being given this opportunity shows my family and myself that I’ve truly worked as hard as I can to succeed. Growing up around adults with a good work ethic has taught me to see the reality in life. Working hard will help create a better future. I not only work hard in my classes but I also participate in sports which gives me the experience of being a leader.
