There are differences between the types of cancers develop in children and adults. In the case of cancers in children, risk factors such as environment and lifestyle do not play a role. Usually, cancers in children are the result of changes in DNA which happen very early in life. Thanks to the advances in cancer treatment, today more than 80% children with cancer survive 5 years or more. Unfortunately, cancer is still the second leading cause of death in children.

It accounts for about 5% of all cancers in children. It develops in the kidney and is known as the most common type of kidney cancer in children. In most cases, Wilms tumor only forms one kidney. In the U.S, there are about 500 new Wilms tumor cases every year with 9 out of 10 children are cured of this cancer. In Wilms tumor, the signs of cancer in children are poor appetite, nausea, fever, lump or swelling in the stomach and pain.
Neuroblastoma
Neuroblastoma is the third most common cancer in children, accounting for 7% of the total cases. This cancer develops from immature nerve cells in babies and children. It often starts in the adrenal glands. The signs of neuroblastoma include difficulty in walking, diarrhea, pain in various parts of the body, changes in eyes and high blood pressure.
Brain Tumors
The second most common cancer in children is brain tumors. It accounts for about 27% of all cancers in children. There are many different types of brain tumors in children.
