Community College Dilemma
The Lack of Formal Training in Ethics for Professors:
Based on the Journal of College and Character an article by Jacqueline Klein talks about an issue regarding how “most college instructors do not focus on professional ethics as they go about their daily duties as teachers, researchers, committee members, and advisors (Klein, 2005) Examples of irresponsible and unethical behavior by faculty include being late for class, using vulgarity, showing favoritism toward students, inappropriately using campus funds, plagiarizing, engaging in dual relationships with students, failing to uphold administrative duties, and refusing to uphold responsibilities of teaching and research (Klein, 2005).

Woods, it spoke of the five ethical paradigms, ethic of justice, ethic of critique, ethic of care, ethic of the profession, and ethic of local community. While walking through how I would address the ethical dilemmas, I began to understand the connection of Ethical Decision Making with the five paradigms. Ethic of Justice guides your decision making by following policies, procedures, rules and laws. Ethic of Critique is critiquing the moral issues in pursuit of a resolution is fair and balanced. Ethics of care is ensuring the interest of the party is not affected and in this case it’s the student. Ethic of profession is understanding the responsibility of ethical conduct. Professors have a moral responsibility to act with integrity at all times. Ethic of Local Community is the understanding that community colleges serve the needs of the community and the greater good (Woods, 2012). Unethical behavior can never be tolerated if the college is to serve and represent the community. I was able to incorporate each of these paradigms in my decision-making process. Understanding that when someone thinks ethically, they take the time to think through situations, the effects and

In February of 2015, Citizens Voice published an essay written by Dr. Michael MacDowell, in which he gave his opinion on Barack Obama’s recent proposal to make the first two years of community college free of charge. Dr. Michael A. MacDowell, retired president of Misericordia University and a writer for Citizen’s Voice, disagrees with Obama’s plan and makes this clear with his article's title, “The Community College Model Works Just Fine”. MacDowell’s greatest arguments is that the community college group may not be the most affective group to offer free education. MacDowell successfully uses statistical facts and evidence to create a convincing essay.

Although the argument against free community college is reasonable, opponents of this argument raise numerous positive points. The most obvious benefit of free college is that college attendance will increase. By increasing college attendance, America will become a much more developed and educated society. Everyone benefits when the population becomes more knowledgeable. Additionally, another critical benefit in favor of free community college is the fact that people will graduate with little to no debt.
For the past year I’ve been conducting research about the reason why students don’t attend a community college. Other than financial reasons, why else? Due to my huge hesitation in attending community college I wanted to investigate on why wasn’t that a popular option in my culture in High School. In may 2014, I received the student ambassador job position that I was not expecting, which had a huge impact on my research. I was so curious as to how the process of orientation runs that impacts the students decisions.
As one grows older one is taught morals and what one should or should not do based on religion, beliefs, culture and a few other contributions to ethics. Ethics is a great way to demonstrate how important values are based on one’s professionalism and the way one conducts themselves.
However, ethics advisors, healthcare instructors, and analysts are encouraged to give direction and pedagogical apparatuses that empower the experts to comprehend and execute morally courageous practices and exhibit excellent individual and expert models of ethical
The reason as to why police brutality is unethical is simple. It kills a lot of people and is not necessary. However, what are the reasons as to why police brutality has become such a problem in the United States? One can argue the police officers take advantage of how much authority their occupation comprises of. If a cop shoots and murders a person, they claim that they were using self-defense or some other kind of excuse.
Robert J. Sternberg is a professor of Psychology and vice president at Oklahoma State University. Sternberg states, “To act ethical, individuals must go through a series of steps”. He presupposes teaching these 8 steps is just as important as teaching students how to pass a test. Numerous of dilemmas proceeding in establishments are not generated the by absences of knowledge, but because of the lack of ethics. People may apprehend the rules of being ethical but are unable translate into their everyday lives.
What have you learned? What did you enjoy about the course? I have learned that the community college has a lot of ups and downs and the communities, federal government and students are expecting a lot from the community colleges and they want them to continue to contribute towards building the economy by providing well trained and educated students to be placed into the workforce to help the U.S. economy progress. I have also learned that without the community college, a lot of students would have not get the opportunity to fulfill their dreams of succeeding in today’s modern society. The community college not only provide education for low income students, but they also provide great programs which help students to thrive and move on to
The readings stated that applies to ethics asks us to pay attention, to be conscious and conscientious about standing within larger patterns of expectations “taking care” or to act (Weston p.5). In other words, we need to watch and act in every situation whether it is good or bad. Ethics can be challenging for anyone and it can be painful (Weston p.43). I personally agree
Decisions about right and wrong, good and bad imbue our day to day liveliness; Behaving accordingly as individuals, shaping liable governments and trussed organization, and making our society as a whole more ethical. I understand that decision about “right” and “wrong” and “good” and “bad” can be difficult, and is somethings related to individual ambience. Even though ethics conflate or confused with ways in which people may make choices including law and religion, Ethics provides standards for acceptable and unacceptable behaviors that guides one decision on how we ought to act in a range of situations. I believe I use the “The Common Good Approach” mostly.
According to the Personal Insights ethics rater, I am more ethical than the student norms; this stems from my all or nothing approach to life. On very few questions did I take the middle ground, I preferred 1’s (strongly disagree) and 5’s (strongly agreed). Had I chosen 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s my results would have been more consistent with the student norms. The greatest differences occurred on questions 3-18 “Business decisions involve a realistic attitude and not a moral philosophy” and 3-19 “. ““Business ethics” is a concept for public relations only.”
Ethical decision-making process are influenced by both individual and environmental characteristics, as well as an interaction with the cognitive process (Cooper, 2012). For every public official whose loyalty is to himself, his organization, and the public, the ethical decision-making process is dynamic, it is not constant, it involves a process of recognizing the problem and moving through the course of action towards finding a possible solution. It is contingent upon several factors. There is no one-size-fits-all for every situation, but the course of action is determined by the individual and environmental factors involved and the ethical character the public official has built over time. Ethical Decision Making
However, as we discussed in class, there are so many situations where ethical decision-making occurs, and there are so many factors that influence why we do what we do. Because we work with a multitude people with interesting and diverse lives and backgrounds, and because we come in with our own baggage and experiences that influence how we act and react, we make split-second decisions all the time that can have profound effects on our work and our consumers. Having so many opportunities to look at my own actions, this particular assignment has been so rewarding and interesting for me. This is the first time in any of my assignments where I have been forced to look at how ethics is involved in our
