They understand the health needs of the communities they serve through daily interactions with patients and customers. Without them, community pharmacy will not be able to play a vital role in the health care of patients. Community pharmacies are an accessible health care point that provides very valuable services to their patients. Community pharmacists improve the public’s health in many ways. They optimize the effective and safe use of medicines in acute illness and long term conditions.
All healthcare professionals should serve patients and the community by providing the best care possible in their scope of practice (Shohani & Zamanzadeh, 2017, pp. 355-357). Nurses have to be aware of how to act in and outside the workplace. This includes sharing opinions and information on social media, speaking badly about coworkers or a workplace, accepting gifts or socializing with patients and their families. Patient information
Contrary to popular belief, pharmacists don’t just sit behind a counter in the back of the pharmacy counting pills all day. Pharmacists play an important role in today’s society as counselors and teachers, and anyone who has ever been to counseling or school knows communication is a key factor in these fields. Pharmacists must be fluent in all types of communication in order to be successful. A pharmacist’s job is to communicate to patients, healthcare practitioners, and the community vital information and advice (Wallman). Potential pharmacists go through communication training in pharmacy school where they learn how to be effective in each type of communication.
It is also characterised by increased frequency and fluidity . The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines it as the passage of three or more loose or liquid stools per day . There are a number of different types of diarrhoea such as secretory, osmotic, exudative, inflammatory and dysentery [Table 1.]. I have been lucky and honored to work with an amazing team of pharmacists who were always there to answer any of my never ending questions. One aspect that made me fall in love with a pharmacy career was the special interaction between pharmacists and patients. Another reason I have decided to pursue Doctor of Pharmacy degree was the fact that I have seen many refugee patients who were unable to understand why they were on medications. One day, I assisted a new patient to the pharmacy who did not speak English but luckily, I was able to interpret in Arabic language. She needed to get her medication refilled, when I asked her which one, she replied "the one I take for fat".
Hospital pharmacy is a department or service in the hospital which are responsible in supplying medication to hospital wards and ambulatory patients. This department is headed by professionally competent, legally qualified pharmacist who directly supervises and ensures the correct dispensing, compounding and distribution of medication to in and out-patients. Retail pharmacy is a pharmacy in which drugs are sold to the patients, as opposed to a hospital pharmacy. It is also known as a community pharmacy. The concept of retail pharmacy is as a retailing activity.
Someone told me that pharmacists have to be quite meticulous and I believe that I am capable of doing that. I don’t know everything about being a pharmacist, but doing some research has helped me learn more about the career. With all the research I’ve done, I actually became more interested in pursuing this career path. One entry level job associated with being a pharmacist is a pharmacy technician. Requirements for this position in California involve earning “an associate degree in pharmacy technology” or completing a certified pharmacy technician program.
Topic: Need and importance of clinical pharmacists in healthcare system Clinical pharmacy is a health science discipline in which pharmacists provide patient care that optimizes medication therapy and promotes health, and disease prevention, according to American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). described the specialty pharmacy model at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Vanderbilt Specialty Pharmacy (VSP). Two dedicated pharmacists and two technicians were integrated into the MS clinic. They manage the prior authorization (PA) process, patient education of self-injectables and other medications, access to patient financial assistance programs, and overall coordination of care. After the medication is started, the pharmacist performs regular patient assessments for ADRs and adherence. The authors noted that specialty pharmacists opened clinic time to allow practitioners to see more new patients (0.36 down to 0.1 clinic visits per day) with 38% increase in new prescriptions and increased access to medication by following up and getting more PAs approved through insurance appeals or enrollment in manufacturer assistance programs.
