The Battle of Britain and the Battle of the Midway The battle of Britain begins in July 10, 1940. As the Battle of the Midway was June 1942. Each battle had leaders throughout, Battle of Britain`s leader was Winston Churchill prime minister, Germany`s leader was Adolf Hitler head chief commander. For the battle of the Midway was Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto commander in chief for the Japanese side, the U.S leader was Chester Nimitz commander-in-Chief, US Pacific Fleet. The sequence for the battle of Britain started in August 1 when Hitler decreed with the command. August 13 became known as eagle day, when both sides had planes coming down. August 15th a day of intense attacks. August 17 the Germans established operational area. August 25th the RAF launched first raid. September 7th 300 German bombers, escorted 600 fighters. During the war the Japanese carriers started to sink. June 7 the U.S begin to start attacking the Japanese after they have claimed to Islands. U.S ended up suffering 4 carriers. U.S ended up winning the war ending the Japan threat to the Hawaiian Islands and United States. The Germans were defeated in the Battle of Britain. The Britain`s were at an advantage because they were able to land and re-fuel faster than the German`s could. Giving them more time to attack all the other ships and planes. Germans had limited time before they had to land and fuel up. The Germans were way to close to the fueling station and battling right there causing them to have gas explosions. The cost of these Battles that each side lost tons or millions of soldiers, planes, and carriers. The ones who won got an advantage. Those who lost were in brutal condition. Making them weak and easier to destroy. They both suffered in a big way because then they had to pay money to get more planes and carriers in order to be able to fight again if they needed
Australia and allies lost 900 people, 77 aircraft and a load of ships. Facilities were destroyed and the Japanese lost around 131 planes during the attacks. Australians were terrified that the Japanese would invade or attack more areas. You could feel the uneasiness of
General Yamamoto lead another attack on the United States which was Pearl Harbor ("Battle of Midway"). Pearl harbor was a successful attack for the Japanese. They crippled the
For the United States to have a chance to win the battle they had to take risks. During the fighting of the battle, the Japanese were only able to sink 1 United States Cruiser which was hit by a torpedo. The United States was able to sink all 12 Japanese Cruisers. For this to happen the United States took many risks during the battle. They sent out a full air squadron to attack a Japanese ship and only a handful came back.
Hitler’s first goal was to split the allied lines in half just like they had done three times previously in the war. The allies had totally miscalculated this attack and left their divisions that were on the front lines were battered and beaten up from months of intense fighting. The battle of the bulge name came from the giant bulge in the American lines because of the German attack. The attack took place December 16, 1944 at 5:30 a.m. and lasted till January 16th 1945.
This battle showed how effective aircraft carriers are, this also showed that battleships would really have no use anymore. This is because aircraft carriers can carry many aircraft that can be used in a more effective way then any battle ship could be used in. With aircraft that is able to take off and land on a carrier is so effective because it makes the range of how far an aircraft can travel. Now you can be anywhere in the world and have air support because of aircraft carriers. This would also allow aircraft to save fuel because of the carrier.
A huge breakthrough came when a man named Joseph Rochefort broke the Japanese code and foretold of an attack on the two islands of midway that the Japanese were interested in. Japans goal in this was to lure out the rest of Americas pacific fleet and destroy them. Luckily for Americans they had no idea that we knew what they were going to do. The Pacific Fleet Including the USS Enterprise, USS Hornet, USS Yorktown, and all of the supporting ships went to Midway and waited for the Japanese to get there. The battle began on June 4th, 1942 approximately 6 months after the devastation of Pearl
There are two different wars that both took place during the 1940s. The wars are different because one was the battle between the Americans and the British, and the other was the Japanese giving a surprise attack in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Back then, there were many reasons why our country was involved in fighting their lives in those wars or any other war; one reason could be that the people in Japan were being treated like outcasts. Other reasons might be that there were unfair laws, nobody had rights to do whatever they wanted, or the main reason could be that they did not get along very well and they did not trust each other. They might have thought that they couldn 't work together to form a better economy for the future of our world or for their family and they used to give up really easily and acted like quitters.
It was smart of them to attack Great Britain fast because they would not be expecting it, but Great Britain’s air defense was effective and Germany didn’t have much of a navy left. The Battle of Midway signified the turning point in the pacific. The Japanese were going to the island of Midway to seize it. The Americans were able to sink 4 carriers and won , even though the Japanese had a numerically better navy. Without these important battles there is a chance that the war could have went ferly
The ongoing battle of Britain versus America raged on with one of the most important wars in American history, the War of 1812. This battle began with a simple feud. Britain had been angry at America for helping both them and their enemy in a war. Britain felt that America shouldn’t help France and should be punished for helping. They began committing a series of naval violations against our naval policy.
The battle started on september 26, 1918 near the Argonne forest. 871 tanks with 130 planes were used along with 700,000 U.S. soldiers. The battle opened with a barrage of bombardment, artillery, and infantry On the first day of the battle the U.S. had giand ten miles and were moving into the Argonne forest close to the hindenburg line (Meyers 85). This was the biggest gain of land in the war since the Battle of the Somme.
It was a long night, last night, on September 7th, 1940, when the Germans bombed London. London was the “Heart of England”, which meant that this city was one of the most important cities to the Allies at the time. The first attack started at 4:00 P.M. and lasted until 6:00 P.M. that night. In these two hours 348 German bombers escorted by 617 fighters blasted London rapidly. {London before and after the bombings (blitz) of 1940} That was only the beginning of what was going to be a very long night, because after a short amount of time London was bombed again with incendiary bombs on the first wave.
The German incursion plan, code-named ‘Operation Sealion’, took form when Britain failed to assure for peace, as Hitler had expected, after the decline of
Believing that the British early warning system had been destroyed and the coastal towns sufficiently 'softened up' for an invasion, the Luftwaffe began the next stage of their plan. On 13 August (called Adlertag or Eagle Day by the German High Command), massive raids began on the airfields of 11 Group. The aim was to destroy the RAF, either in the air or on the ground, in South East England. To put pressure on the British defences, the Germans sent high and low level raids to different targets at the same time.
General Douglas Haig often believed his army was on the verge of the breakthrough. In 1917 they developed a plan to attack Britan for the third time. On July 31st “The Third Battle of Ypres” or “The Battle of Passchendaele” took place just outside of Ypres,Belgium. Soilders were forced to battle in 76 mm of rain that continued for as long as four days.
The First World War began in August 1914. It was set off by the assassination of the Austrian archduke, Franz Ferdinand and his wife, on 28th June 1914 by Bosnian revolutionary, Gavrilo Princip. Austria/Hungary's waited three weeks to react to the death of their heir. Arguing that the Serbian government was implicated in the conspiracy of the Black Hand (a secret military society), the Austro-Hungarians chose to take the opportunity to stamp its authority upon the Serbians, stopping nationalism there and sealing Austria/Hungary's influence in the Balkans. Austria/Hungary's wanted Serbia to refuse the terms of the ultimatum, which would give them a reason to launch a limited war against Serbia.
