Peeta Mellark, one of the main characters in the book The Hunger Games, once said, “ My nightmares are usually about losing you. But I am okay once I realise your here.” The novel is about two teens from each district in the country Panem being selected to be in the Hunger Games, a reality TV show that requires them to fight to the death. Over the course of the novel, the two main characters, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, develop romantic feelings for each other. In The Hunger Games, written by Suzanne Collins, the overarching theme is your love for others can make you happy in even the worst of times is demonstrated by Katniss’ love for Gale, Prim, and Peeta. Every year, each district sends two participants, a boy and a girl, to Capitol to participate in the Hunger Games. The participants fight till death, and the survived participant is crowned as the Victor. The novel tells the story of the sixteen-year-old girl Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers to take her younger sister's place in the annual Hunger Games. Peeta was chosen as the male contestant from district 12. The novel
It’s sleep syrup, a common medication used in the districts, and Katniss sees an opportunity to knock Peeta out long enough for her to go to the feast. This action by Katniss is a prominent example of Katniss’s hidden strength and bravery because she was willing to risk her life for the one person she truly trusted and cared for in the games. Her whole life, Katniss has put others before herself, and this character trait is put on display because of the threat of Peeta dying("Critical Reception of The Hunger
They share sympathies with Electra in the incompetence with the plan. Notice that these female characters are considered on the good side being within the existing state of affairs. But Clytemnestra, who breaks out of status quo and chose retribution above misery, is labelled a power hungry liar, traitor, and a mother who must meet the end through her son’s blade. Although the household is run on familial blood debt, it is inevitable to sight the bonds between the remaining members of the household. Just the sight of Orestes’ lock of hair, Electra managed to identify it even through the years of separation.
This essay will critically examine on how the female figure is represented throughout a very “selective” media outlet (the film industry), and how society is depicted in the film medium. The chosen media text for analysis is The Hunger Games, a theatrical adaptation of the novel written by Suzanne Collins and directed by Gary Ross. The film is centred on Katniss Everdeen - a teenage girl who volunteers on behalf of her sister, to fight in the annual Hunger Games- and the male District 12 tribute, Peeta Mellark, with whom she shares quite an intense past. Both characters embark on a journey that will test their physical and emotional boundaries, while being hunted by the other 22 competitors who all fight for the same objective: survival. Though The
Additionally, in the movie Pitch Perfect, Beca goes to college and her dad really wants her to join a club or sport, so she decides to join the Barden Bellas. The Bellas may have some ups and downs, but they manage to stay together and win the acapella championship. Throughout the movie, the group of girls show many instances where they disagree on something, but through all the arguing they still keep the group together because they realize how much each one means to them. Another movie that has funny and loyal characters is The Fast and The Furious. In this movie, a group of family-friends try to commit crimes and race cars without getting caught or killed, but in the middle of all of it they let an outsider into the group without knowing he is a cop.
The purpose of the Hunger Games is to win for your nation and possibly die doing so, just like the Olympics. As one of the representatives for the US team, Samantha Served the same purpose of Katniss Everdeen. They were both just a pawn in a deadly game for the sole purpose of entertaining their nation. Therefore the Hunger Games and the Olympics have too much in common with each other, making Retrosi’s argument very strong. The luger’s argument is interesting because she got hurt and she linked the Hunger Games and the Olympics together.
The powerless families and loved ones of the tributes stay at home and as parents bear witness to their son or daughter’s murder on live television. Just to inflict the greatest pain possible on them, families must watch the death of their child on several occasions. Each death is broadcast once on live television when it actually happens and once more when the victor of the Games is presented with the images of all the killings that took place in that year’s show and again in the annual three-hour-long summary. The poor districts also have to celebrate the victor of each year when he or she visits the district during the Victory Tour. Naturally, the victor can be the person who was responsible for killing the children of that particular district.
The Hunger Games was released in 2012 and stars Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta), and Liam Hemsworth (Gale). The main story line is centered on Katniss having an on screen romance with Peeta in order to survive the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is the name given to the yearly forced survival competition for 18 unlucky contestants. The object of the game is to be the last man or woman living at the end and to kill everyone else. The reason for the on screen romance comes into play because the people at home watching can send gifts to the competitors.
In King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard, the world is divided by blood type. In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Panem is a destroyed country divided into districts that send a male and female tribute to death every year. Both books present two female outcasts that are fed up with their worlds, and attempt to save themselves and the people they love. Aveyard and Collins both use character archetype and mood to present the theme of that when you are being controlled by someone you want to get out you want to get away. Even though it might be hard, as long as you hold what and who you love most you will always find a way back to them.
