Both Civil Disobedience and the Gandhi article are alike based on the fact they both discuss civil disobedience, attending prison, and standing for one’s beliefs. Civil disobedience can be seen as a good thing and a bad thing depending on to what extent one is breaking the laws. Some people may break the law because they feel that it is unfair to them but others break the for the simple fact of doing what they want in order for it to benefit themselves. Laws are meant for the majority which means even if they are not pertaining to certain citizens. Thoreau targeted laws that pertained to him, Gandhi went on strike for the better of his country and people. Gandhi and Thoreau had many similarities and differences about civil disobedience.
Gandhi and Thoreau had many similarities about disobedience which meant they didn’t have completely different ideas. Both men believed that one should stand for what they believed in no matter the circumstances. Both men were pro civil disobedience, However the two had different ways of showing civil disobedience. For example on page 395, in the first paragraph which explained that even when peaceful revolution it used a problem will always be encounter. Gandhi protested tax on salt by marching as seen in paragraph 3 and Thoreau protested tax on the voting poll according to page 395 paragraph two. Another difference between the two is that gandhi hurt people around him because he persuaded people to strike with him, according to paragraph four in the last sentence. Thoreau stood only for his beliefs, so once he ran into the law it was on him. Thoreau focused more on conscience as seen on page 392, lines 31-39 in which Thoreau stated “ A corporation with conscious men has a conscience”.
