This is probably due to the fact that they explain many of the scientific processes .The language used in the book like in a few of the dystopias a form of oppression.
These books or plays about people standing up to their government are not just entertainment, their inspiration. Antigone goes against the laws of the government, sacrifices her life in service of the greater justice and the laws of God. She could be compared to our modern heroes such as Gandhi or Martin Luther King Jr., who both fought for civil rights. As a result, both murdered during their fights against oppression.
Since the beginning, humans have been held to certain standards regarding morality our rights as humans. History shows us leaders and rulers who, in their reign of power, have misused their power and attacked human’s rights to agency and liberty. By looking at all the wars, violence, criminals, and acts of immorality that humans have accomplished, many assume that humans are not good at fighting for the rights of others. However, in every war, and every act of violence, there is an opposing force. There will always be someone fighting for the good of others, whether it be one person or a whole army, which comes to show that humans are essentially good at fighting for the rights of others.
They cannot do what they want and express themselves, they must abide to the strict governmental laws. In F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby,
“Throughout time, literature has been used as an instrument to revolt against social and political issues” This quote explains how literature has been used through out all these years and how it used violent action against an established government issues. A successful totalitarian government is when they have total control and access of the citizens and their social and personal life. Freedom is non existing if ruled under a totalitarian government. They rule through fear and only target on a specific religion and belief.
In the end, it is clear that the theocracy of Gilead has robbed the identity of the citizens in order to maintain obedience. The Regime established a strict hierarchy in which people lose their individuality. Every aspect of the handmaids’ personality as simple as their names, clothing and belongings are altered or abolished in such a way to undermine their individuality and reduce their identity to their functions in this totalitarian society. So, defining ourselves is closely linked to the freedom we have. If we have the rights to express our individuality and determine our identity ourselves, we can be the person we would like to be.
The answer is that in the article Mahatma Gandhi Assassinated, it states that he preached a philosophy of nonviolence and civil disobedience (the refusal to comply with certain laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest. In Civil Disobedience by Thoreau, he also agrees with civil disobedience. They both used nonviolence when they protested, Gandhi used peaceful protesting to help the lives of Indians from the British rule. Thoreau refused to pay poll taxes to protest against slavery and an unjust government. They also both went to jail for protesting for what they thought was right.

The government plays many roles in a society. They have control over rules and can set restrictions on whatever they would like to. Government control causes problems is societies because they limit the freedom of the people by creating strict rules and regulations, and limit diversity between them by requiring them to conform to a particular way of life. There are many examples of government control in our society today.
The poem “The White House” written by Claude McKay is a poem about the struggle of McKay. The sonnet was written in the 1920’s about the segregation of America showing the disrespect and trouble McKay went through. This essay will explore the opinion of everybody body should be treated equally as every human has the right to deserve the equal respect because there will be a lot of harm caused to the opposition. This idea has been shown through the use of metaphor, simile, and oxymoron. Overall, this essay will show that the law of segregation has a very negative impact on the general public as humanity was destroyed.
Civil Rights Movement The Civil rights movement was a movement that was brought on by unfair conditions, Jim Crow, affecting the lives of a whole race of people. It was now time to claim democratic rights. The historical events that created the conditions of the Civil Rights Movement, major events involving the legislature, and nonviolent civil disobedience were all major contributions to the rise of the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King Jr. grew into leadership and went on to lead many non-violent demonstrations.
In a news article published during the Red Scare, the author describes the Communist red flag as symbolizing “defiance of law, order, and constitutional government. It is an insult to the stars and stripes.” It also states, “There is no room in this country for any flag but our own.” (source) The article goes on to say that the federal government must do whatever it takes to eradicate any forms of communism.
Laws are part of our Constitution and protect citizens. We have to take responsibility and accountability for choices in order to better our future.
