Art is the force that bonds humans, connecting people across both seas and centuries. It is simultaneously historical and futuristic, original and inspired, intimate and distant. Without art, humanity and relationships are lost. Though art doesn’t always involve language, it is a universal communication tool that allows people to cope with trauma and bond with one another, no matter where or when they reside. Works of art incessantly draw from and inspire one another. Whether consciously or unconsciously, artists incorporate bits and pieces of other works of art within their own. Station Eleven, a contemporary television miniseries, is a piece of art that draws significant inspiration from many forms of art while emphasizing the importance …show more content…
He is struck with awe and a sense of vengeance when his father’s eerie visage greets him. This encounter is powerful enough to commandeer the rest of Hamlet’s life. He and his actions (or lack thereof as a result of his indecisiveness) are dominated by his encounter with a ghost. The power of meeting “ghosts” is also central to the Station Eleven finale. In episode 5 of Station Eleven, audiences learn that inhabitants of the Severn City airport were led to believe that Tyler burned in the airplane fire; thus, when they view Tyler as Hamlet in the Traveling Symphony’s production, they are overwhelmed with disbelief and awe, likely believing that Tyler was a ghost. Tyler’s presence on stage was incredibly powerful to the audience, and this “ghost” added a sense of otherworldliness and amazement to the production. Kirsten’s reunion with Jeevan also emphasized the themes of the power of memory and encountering “ghosts” in Station Eleven. Having no formal goodbye, Kirsten contemplated and questioned Jeevan’s survival for years. After returning to an empty cabin, Jeevan could only hope that Kirsten’s skills and maturity could carry her through the perils of the post-pandemic world. So, when Jeevan and Kirsten meet, both are overwhelmed by the disbelief and relief of seeing each other’s “ghosts,” just as Hamlet was affected by the sight of his father’s ghost. Thus, the themes of ghosts and the power of memory being implemented into the finale of Station Eleven further bridge connections between Station Eleven and
Art speaks words you may not be able to say. Arts enable us to imagine the unimaginable, and to connect us to the past, present, and the future, sometimes even all at
Hamlet is one of the most remarkable tragedy plays in the world, thus there are many reproductions to create same sensation. Films of Hamlet are the most famous versions of these and there are so several films created. These include Branagh’s version released in 1996 and Tennant’s version released in 2009. Branagh 's film is four hours long movie trying to create the exact version of story Hamlet on the screen and Tennant’s is three hours long television film, famous because it is a modernized version of Hamlet. Although Branagh’s and Tennant’s versions films have vast differences, they are both be able to convey the play’s theme of madness in their films.
Art is all around us, from the buildings we live in to the bumper stickers on our cars. It is an expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, that produces works that are appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. Every day we see images that influence our thoughts and actions; images that challenge us to think and interpret things differently. Images that widen our thought processes to see more than just from our own point of view. Art plays an essential role in our culture and society by shaping it into what it is today and continues to push us farther intellectually and emotionally.
It is hard to define art as it comes in many different shapes, sizes, and types. Essentially, it is the expression of creative skill and imagination that evolve into produced compositions that display beauty and emotion. Art is present in works such as literature, paintings, sculptures, poems and embodies many other forms. Although these creations are all different in genre and are possibly created centuries apart, their underlying messages often display overlap. In fact, this was the case for Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the songs “Isolation” by Alter Bridge, “Obsession” by Animation, and “Poison Heart” by Ramones.
The setting of the movie is the first obvious difference that can be seen. The movie was set in New York City, New York in 2000 while the play was set in Elsinore, Denmark in the late middle ages. This greatly affects the way the movie is viewed because it is essentially an entirely different world. In the movie there are video cameras, cars, phones and skyscrapers, all things that obviously weren’t around during Shakespeare’s time. Even if the movie and the play had been based in the same year, the story still would have been slightly different.
The ghost not only had an effect on Hamlet, but also destroyed other major characters
Station Eleven is a story filled with many different plotlines and backstories, all intricately woven together to paint a fascinating image of life after the Georgia Flu pandemic. The character development is one of the most intriguing parts of the novel, as the reader is surprised again and again with the actions and connections of each figure. Many of the characters enter both as background members in some scenes and as main characters in others, so that their stories flow smoothly with the others. Two characters that this can be applied to are Tyler, Arthur’s son, and Kirsten, a child actor turned into a performer with a travelling groupe after the near-extinction of the human race. They both grew and developed out of this tragedy, being
The ghost of King Hamlet plays an enormous role in Hamlet even though he is hardly in the play
Hamlet, written by famous playwright and poet, William Shakespeare, is frequently referred to as the “Mona Lisa” of literature. The true purpose and complete understanding of the play is, up to this day, not remotely knowledgeable by scholars and the audience alike. The play has led to much conversation about what Shakespeare was ultimately trying to accomplish with it. One vexed and widely referred critique was that made by T.S. Eliot, in which he described, “The ‘madness’ of Hamlet lay to Shakespeare’s hand…a deliberate dissimulation, but a form of emotional relief” (Eliot 93). In creating Hamlet, Shakespeare achieved perplexity in the scheme that created for misinterpretation of an unexplained Hamlet.
Hamlet is William Shakespeare 's renowned tale of mystery, intrigue, and murder, centered on a young misguided prince who can only trust himself. Some may say that the actions of Prince Hamlet throughout the play are weak and fearful, displaying a tendency to procrastinate and showing an apathetic nature towards his family and peers. Others spin a tale of a noble young scholar, driven mad by the cold-blooded murder of his father by his uncle. In truth, I believe Hamlet is neither of these things. Hamlet is a sort of amalgamation of the two, a bundle of contradictions thrown together into one conflicting but very human mess of a character.
“Something is rotten in the state of Denmark” (I.v.90). Hamlet is about a young prince who is mourning the loss of his father. He then tries to seek revenge on his uncle Claudius because he poisoned his father. Throughout the play Hamlet’s behavior starts to change which causes him to become mad. The theory about all this is a Psychological Approach.
The painter, the photographer, and the sculptor create their joy as if they are a child with a box of crayons. Forged in creativity, their piece growing closer to their heart and the viewers. Art heals, art helps, and art teaches. Without it, we are not human but with it, we can create galaxies. Art’s beneficial impact on communities is evident through effective health treatment, adaptive education, and economic gain.
William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet adapts to many different literary works of the present day. These works include, most notably, “The Lion King” a Disney movie adaptation. The movie shares common similarities in the characters, themes, and conflict, but aside from the similarities the Disney adaptation displays scenes and moments not connected to the movie. The main protagonist, Hamlet is shown in the movie adaptation as Simba, the heir to the lion pride from Mufasa, his father.
In Yo-yo Ma’s writing, “Necessary Edges: Art, Empathy, and Education”, Ma discusses the importance of integrating arts in society and education; this differs from Rhys Southan’s writing, “Is Art a Waste of Time”, for it talks about how the “Effective Altruism” movement does not see art as valuable because it does not make major contributions to society. Art is a tool used to communicate with people; this tool positively impacts contemporary culture, for it brings different cultures closer together, changes opinions, and it is useful in education. Art is used all around the world to express culture. The art forms created by different cultures are shared with one another, and this creates subcultures and links cultures together.
Through the entirety of the play “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare, the characters were overcome with the need for revenge as the outcome of many deaths. Therefore, no one was happy through “Hamlet” and it resulted in a tragedy. The character Hamlet played a big role in turning towards revenge and never would classify himself as being happy. Hamlet displays positive and negative behavior throughout the play. Hamlet exhibits strengths and weaknesses as well, although his weaknesses of over-thinking, bitterness, and his inability to accept the death of his father overshadow his strengths.
