Adam Savage expressed his speech titled "Why We Make" in the pursuit to fathom the reason why makers operate the way they do, and kickoff by expressing his first concoction — a Millennium Falcon he constructed in his mother's closet when he was a youngster. Savage continues to talk about the deceptive dichotomy between pop culture and culture, and how instructors and business professionals shouldn't delineate between reinvigorating the objects of myth and establishing something new. He anticipates a current generation of minorities will be stimulated to invent whatever it is they find intriguing, and points out that science, math, and art are all imperative ingredients for visionary work.
According to David Hackett Fischer, author of Paul Revere’s Ride, Paul Revere was extraordinary, yet practical; he was intelligent, but lacked a college education. This silversmith was an independent Bostonian whose complexity resembled “the nation that he helped create” (4-5). Fischer not only relays the importance of Revere, but also mentions other important figures and events that impacted the first volley of the American Revolution. Boston was the heart of the Revolution, and two men, Paul Revere and General Sir Thomas Gage, felt the tension rising within Boston’s city limits.
To replace the problematic Articles of Confederation, Washington, Hamilton, Jay, Franklin, and others organized the 1787 Philadelphia Convention and started to compose a new law of the country, the United States Constitution. The policies that were enforced by the new prime minister resulted in America's fight for independence. Some of the taxed imposed upon the colonies included the Sugar Act, the Stamp Act and the Tea Act. All three of these acts forced the Americans to pay a tax on everyday goods. In the mid-nineteenth-century, the economic power switched in the South from the “upper South” to the “lower South,” which was expanding agriculturally. This switch resulted in the growth of a cotton-based economy. Economically, the change from cultivating tobacco and rice to cotton helped immensely. The high demand for cotton led to tremendous profits in the South and this drew the population to move to the prospering agricultural lands. The increase in cotton farming made African American slaves a necessity to the white males.
Before the civil war African Americans were enslaved forced to work on plantations. They were treated harshly, and faced many different hardships. This would change after the civil war, because they were granted their freedom. They were no longer forced to work on plantations, but that does not mean they were treated any better. Strong, long lasting unions are built from the determination and respect of the people; individualism takes a sole part in the United States government and has it has shaped our world today. When the United States of America was born, myriads of people migrated to this land in search of a better life- the only problem was how the country itself were to be run.
