The Native American portrays creation in different ways compared to the Georgia tales. While they are different, there is one common aspect to both Native American tales and the Georgia tales. The common aspect is that the stories in both tales attempt to illustrate a cultural outlook to offer reasons as to why the world is what it is. In other worlds, both tales attempt to answer the common question of why something is the way it is. One of the main differences is the way creation occurs. For instance, in the Georgia tales, creation occurs due to various factors. These various factors include the interactions of animals, humans, and supernatural creatures. In other words, humans in Native American tales have different characteristics compared to humans in the Georgia tales. Adding on, supernatural creatures and animals also play a different role. For instance, in the story, “The Iroquois Creation Story,” there are two worlds: a lower world and an upper world, unlike most Georgia tales. The factor that accounts for the creation of the world is the woman who conceives and gives birth to twins from the help of an animal, a turtle. The twins are later called the good mind and the evil mind. From that point on, the good mind is able to participate in creation by making the island gain fruits, vegetables, and animals. In addition, it describes how the good mind used his parent’s head to create the sun and then used the rest of the body to create an orb to which further created the
In the Iroquois myth, the bad mind offers a challenge to his brother, the good mind, to resolve which of the two would control the universe. The good mind beat the bad mind and repaired the earth, taught the people how to live, and retired from the earth. In the christian myth, Cain worked the land and soil and Abel watched over and worked the flocks of sheep and other animals. They went to bring God gifts and Cain brought gifts of fruit and Abel brought gifts of fat from the flock. The Lord favored Abel's gifts over Cain's and this made him angry so he killed Abel over jealousy.

Since the beginning of civilization, countless cultures, including the Cherokee and Iroquois, developed stories in order to explain their views on creation and reflect the values and traditions in their culture. The Iroquois developed a myth called “The World on the Turtle’s Back”, while the Cherokee recorded “The Story of Corn and Medicine”. Both myths reveal the importance of nature, including plants, in the Iroquois and Cherokee cultures, and they follow a similar path of creation that starts with water and darkness and the expanding of mud to form land. However, the Iroquois myth focuses on human harmony with nature and the disharmony between genders, while the Cherokee myth points out the disharmony with nature and the greater equality
In the first story of creation the animals make everything and come before the people. As in the second story it is a powerful sport that is commanding all the animals to work for him. Also in the first story the way things are created is not planned or though out. The Great Buzzard makes things on accident by flying around. However, in the second story the man carefully places the earth down and then draws out where he wants rives to be placed.
In David Cusick’s version of “The Iroquois Creation Story,” it begins by there being two worlds-an upper and a lower. The upper world contained humans while the “lower world was in great darkness; -the possession of the great monster” (pg. 23). In the upper world a woman conceives twins and falls towards the lower world. The creatures of the lower world gathered together in the spot where she would land. The only creature that would be able to hold the women was the large turtle with the Earth on his shell.
In Genesis and “The World on the Turtle’s Back”, shared characteristics include the central tree, a fall from the heavens, and the beginnings of the earth from the primordial sea. Through these similar aspects, however, the Christian god is shown to have dominance over his creation, while the Iroquois gods are depicted to be like the natives, susceptible to weaknesses and temptations. Their reasons for the conditions of their present life differ as well, for the lives of the Iroquois depend upon the woman’s fall, while the loss of eternal life for Adam and Eve interfered with the main reason for their creation. With these interpretations of the archetypal settings, the Iroquois and the Christians perceive the same world through different eyes, giving them a basis for their unique cultures and
Native American Cultures: The Northeast states that women cared for babies, cooked, and made clothes, while the men built houses, hunted, made tools, and went to war (3). These elders combined their understanding of the natural and spiritual worlds to create the Cherokee origin story (Mika n.p.). They were able to teach the Cherokee people about their history, culture, and values through their stories and storytelling abilities (Mika n.p.). These stories almost always have spiritual figures, in Sami stories, the Bieggaålmaj, (the ‘wind god’), the Akka (female spirits) and the Stallo (clumsy, man-eating giants of the wilderness) are commonly used in stories (A Story of Nature and Persecution). In many First Nation stories, many common figures are animals such as the raven, eagle, and buffalo (Animal Stories). Although a similar theme they both commonly possess is the importance of peace, respect, and balance in nature. Animals are also viewed to be greatly respected and are symbols of strength, wisdom, guidance, and
Also the trees played a significant role in both stories. They both had boundaries and if you messed with them in certain ways there was consequences. Where Adam and Eve could not touch any of the fruit of the tree and when they did they were punished. Also in the Iroquois version they could only eat the fruit, and when Sky Women got juice from the roots “she was pushed” down the hole. They both also had an explanation of the creation of the world.
The two stories of creation we 're very similar in both Christianity, and the Iroquois. They both had the same outline, but each of them added their own personal twists that made it their own. Their first similarity was the amount of children they had. They both had 2 kids, that we 're opposites. One of the differences about this was that one of the stories was how in one, the kids we 're dire opposites.
