There are many different tragedies of America, and many different important well known speeches. These three speeches: “The Gettysburg Address,” “Pearl Harbor, Day of Infamy,” and 9/11 have different facts, purposes, deliveries, styles, and tones. There are many facts about the three text: “The Gettysburg Address,” “Pearl Harbor, Day of Infamy,” “Address to the American People.” The Gettysburg Address took place in 1863 and was given by Abraham Lincoln in Gettysburg. This speech is the shortest speech in American history, with only ten sentences, but is the most famous. However, “Pearl Harbor, Day of Infamy” was given by president Franklin Roosevelt in 1941. There is a memorial built over Pearl Harbor. And on September the 11th 2001 there was an attack on the twin towers in New York. At the time of the attack the president was George W. In the Gettysburg Address the purpose was to “dedicate” a cemetery. While in the Pearl Harbor speech the purpose was to declare war on Japan, which lead to war with Germany and Italy. However, the purpose for 9/11 was completely different from the other two, and the purpose was to let terrorist know they can’t destroy American freedom. On the other hand, not only did these speeches have different facts, different purposes, but they also had different deliveries. All three speeches have different deliveries. The first speech, “The Gettysburg Address” was delivered out loud on a field before a crowd, while the “Pearl Harbor” was delivered on the radio. While the 9/11 speech was on television. Another difference in the three speeches is the style. The three speeches have different styles. “Gettysburg Address” has long and elaborate sentences. While “Pearl Harbor, Day of Infamy” has short simple and direct sentences. September 11th, 2001 is short but like a conversation.
