“The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn the more places you’ll go,” says the famous author Dr. Seuss. Many children today sit around looking at their phones, or watching television. They do not realize that reading is such a great way to learn and grow in a different way. Learning by reading fiction stories is fun, innovative and enjoyable. Not only are books a more fun way to learn, they are better entertainment than movies as well. Books last longer than movies, they give more detail, and they grow imagination. Whether it be fairy tales, historical fiction, or fantasy, reading books are more enjoyable than movies because a book allows the reader to “become” someone else for a little while. Reading books are better than watching a movie because they allow the reader imagine the setting for themselves, they provide more detail and backstory and …show more content…
Reading books is better than watching a movie because, books allow the reader to imagine the setting for themselves, they provide more backstory then a movie could and they last longer than a movie. Books are superior to movies because, they engage the reader more than a movie, letting the reader think for themselves. They provide more information to the story than a movie could, and the entertainment of a book last for days while a movie only last for a few hours. I used to not like reading. But then I realized how fun it is and what a great way to learn it provides, I love “becoming” another person if only for a little while. Reading has grown me in ways that I did not believe possible. There are many in the world who cannot read, in the U.S many have the privilege to learn to read but they are wasting that ability on simply watching television. God has given the ability to be able to read and write etc. and we should spend more time using that
When you read a book, the characters and the action are formed in your mind as you read. When you watch a film, the characters and the action are already formed for you and you watch with your eyes. Which is the better way to experience a story? Ender’s Game is the story of the future world preparing to defend itself against an invasion by aliens known as Buggers. Earth had defeated the Buggers twice before but knew they would attack again in the future.
They also gain an understanding of that period in time, how people were treated during that period in time and what went on during that period of time. When reading a novel it is more enjoyable to read than reading a factual report or article. It has been proven that if you find something enjoyable you learn and understand the topic better and in more detail compared to if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing. From my own experiences I can relate to the evidence.
My whole life I struggled to understand what made reading enjoyable to people. I struggled to focus on the ideas of books. It wasn't until about a year ago I was given a book to borrow from a friend. I saw this friend as a mentor in my life and she felt I needed to read this book. I put off reading the book as long as possible but when I finally started progressing through the book my opinion had been altered.
There is also a lot more of the story in a book compared to a movie or a show, because movies or shows go really quick from scene to scene.. Books and TV shows or movies are different because movies or shows may be more exciting than reading a book to some people. People may feel more like they’re actually involved in the movie during action scenes. In my opinion I would rather watch a movie based on a book than read it, but that may not be as good. This is because movies or shows leave out a lot of detail or make changes to a lot of it.
Doctor Seuss once said: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." To paraphrase the quote, it is saying that books are the perfect source of knowledge and they open up many doors in the future. People who read books are constantly enhancing their vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. When reading, individuals are exposed to new ideas, concepts, and perspectives that can broaden their understanding of the world and improve their ability to analyze complex issues.
It is often believed that pictures speak louder than words. However, when comparing a book to a movie, this quote is totally not applicable. The purpose of creating a movie from a book is mainly to bring the characters to life and make the story more relatable. Fantasies, especially, are unrealistic and hence a movie makes the fantasy come to life. The Princess Bride was originally a book which was then filmed as a movie to recreate the story.
Have you ever watched a movie based on a book that told the exact same story? To me, for some reason, books always seem to be the better one out of the two. I feel that in novels, the author develops the story with as many details as possible, while in movies that aspect doesn’t appear in the same way. There aren’t as many details in films since it has to last for a certain amount of time, but books can last for as many pages as the author would like them to. When I read, the fascinating novel “Beowulf,” I really enjoyed how the author made me use my imagination to create a picture of the world that the characters were living in.
“Ask any reader who has seen the movie version of a favorite novel, and the answer will usually be, "The book was better. " That 's because readers of a novel have already made their own perfect movie version” (Corliss et al., 2005). It would appear that Corliss is correct because many people who have read The Hunger Games book would say that it is better than the movie. Although the Hunger Games movie is entertaining, it is very different from the book.
Rough Draft Essay #2 What do you think when you hear something has been banned or censored? Most of us think this “Oh that’s great” because it had content that wasn’t okay for people to see. Today in modern society books are banned/censored because people see them as not appropriate for people to see. The banning/censoring books isn’t the best idea because some books are banned just because they have content that is seen a “mature” or “illegal”.
“the positive outcomes of reading included enjoyment, knowledge of the self and other people, social interaction, social and cultural capital, imagination, focus and flow, relaxation and mood regulation, as well as improvements in communication abilities and longer-term education outcomes.” (“The power of reading: how books help develop children’s empathy and boost their emotional development”). This statement talked about how the books that are prohibited are really enabling children to advance in school. This statement additionally discloses how kids associate with the books. " fiction causes us see how other individuals feel and think.
Better Reading claims that there are four main reasons why children favor reading book series: familiarity, accomplishment, reading momentum, and collectability. Many are overwhelmed when they have to choose a new book to read; however, if all the young readers have to do is pick the next one in the series, they will feel more at ease. Furthermore, children feel accomplished after completing many novels because they are capable of reading more after developing literacy skills. “A Series of Unfortunate Events” is a very popular series, and these four justifications make it much more enjoyable. Linda Bindner from Library Journal compliments Lemony Snicket by saying that his “energetic blend of humor, dramatic irony, and literary flair makes it all perfectly believable.
Books I think are powerful. Books contain so much more than just the story it 's a mindset, and by reading different books, I feel we can be alike in some ways but completely different from others. We will always have likes and dislikes, but once we start to read a book I think we can go in with an open mind set and when we finish, or if we don 't we have are own opinion. A different mindset from everybody else, and that 's extraordinary. That should say something to people and I don’t understand how some people don’t see
In a society where children are bombarded with electronics and technology, it can be challenging to convince them to sit down and either read or listen to a story. Reading and hearing stories helps to spark children’s imaginations and dreams. For some children, bedtime stories are not only special for the heroes or princesses they feature, but also for the scheduled time they get to spend one on one with their parent or guardian. In order for children to learn to enjoy reading they must be able to have a choice in what they are able to read. This is something that is taught to them from a young age, whether they are picking a bedtime story or a novel to read at school, it must be something that interests them.
Books vs. Movies The constant battle between watching a movie and reading a book has lead to many disagreements. Many valid arguments can be made in favor of each as well as each having it’s own disadvantages, yet the question still remains unanswered. Books and movies have many similarities and differences when it comes to experience, development, and imagery. To begin, there are a variety of reasons that make movies not as good as books. The experience, the depth, and the imagery are the three main aspects one needs in order to understand why movies are not as good as books.
It is like this that books expand our knowledge, conception and consciousness of the world around us. You may say that nowadays there are other ways to do that, like the TV or Google, but books allow you to experience the same story form your own perspective, values, ideas and from your own feelings. Through reading, you introduce yourself to new things, new information, and even new ways to solve a problem. Secondly, reading helps us to
