Based on the political debate, I’ve learned many things about the Democratic-Republicans and the Federalists. For example, the Democratic-Republicans believed that having an economy that was based upon agriculture and farming was the best way to succeed. They thought that most citizens were good, and that there should be a more state-centered government so that the people can generally rule themselves. Democratic-Republicans thought that if the constitution didn’t specify something, you can’t read between the lines and make up what you want to do. They also believed that they should help France in the war against England because in the American Revolution, France had helped them.
The battle between the Republican’s and the Federalist back in the 1700’s still carry out today between the Republican and the Democratic Party. Corruption is the most worried about topic that drives concern for the for all everyone involved politically and as a citizen. The politician is always mindful that their reputations are at stake and they should keep themselves as gentlemanly as possible. Today’s America has evolved differently from the intention of a certain group of the founder’s. This essay takes the stance that America in 2017 is moving closer to the viewpoint of the Federalists, compared to the Republicans. First, one must analyze the two parties, then draw the conclusion with supportive facts. Lastly, the comparisons will be summarized and the differences will be minimized.
Federalist wanted wealthy and educated people and the Democrats wanted ordinary people. Federalist wanted strong national government and the Democrats wanted state banks. Federalist were Pro-British and the Democrats were Pro-French. Federalist loose interpretation constitution and the Democrats were strict interpretation constitution. Federalist were very selfish they only cared about the rich and the Democrats were good people they cared about the rich and poor people.
In his Farewell Address, George Washington warned everyone of the dangers of political parties. However, the Federalists and Republicans had very different views. Alexander Hamilton and his fellow Federalists believed in a strong national government and that the best people should govern. On the other hand, Thomas Jefferson and Republicans believed that the national governmentś power should be limited and that power lies with the common men. These two men were completely different, and their completely different views sparked the political party rivalry.
These two totally different political parties were able to agree on one very important topic, their goal and a free republic for our nation. However, if the topic “government” gets brought up, they have two totally different ideas. The Federalists thought we should have a strong Federal Government with a national bank. On the contrary, Democratic Republicans wanted a weak federal government with state banks. Even though we used to be ruled by the British, Federalists were Pro - British, whereas Democratic - Republicans were Pro - French.
During the writing of the Constitution there was a group of people who did not agree with the federalist and they were the anti-federalists. They believed in the exact opposite of what the federalists believed. The federalists believed "that the nation might not survive without the passage of the Constitution"(The Ratification Debate). They argued that the government would only have powers that the Constitution would state. They also argued that the separation of the powers of government would help balance out power and help prevent any tyranny.
They both wanted the government to be different, but the way they were thinking wasn’t. Federalists wanted a strong central government while, the Democratic-Republicans wanted a limited central government and a strict interpretation of the the Constitution. When Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence, “That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” I firmly believe that he knew that in order for a democratic republic to succeed, the government must provide its people with these rights. This part of the sentence is the essential part of any society or government system. The abolishment of these rights is the beginning of a tyrannical government, a government in which it has failed its own people. This was created in their idea that the "greatest" and " brilliant” should command the nation. Since this party would highly possible to be in the standpoint of governmental control, then it was okay for government to be a sizable body. The Democratic - Republican Party highlighted a less important role of the federal government, electing local governments to put forth a bigger role in citizens' affairs.
The difference in philosophical beliefs of the Federalists and Antifederalists was immense. They two were on opposite ends of the political spectrum. The Federalists supported a large, centralized government. The Anti-Federalists supported a more local approach, putting the power in the state and city people. The Federalists were Pro constitution, a ratifying document for all people to follow.
One of the most relevant attributes to this is their differences in construction of the constitution. The Federalists supported loose construction of the government, which means that the government can do anything that is not specifically said that you cannot do in the Constitution. Also, Congress had implied powers and were able to take actions not specifically forbidden. On the other hand, Democratic Republicans supported strict construction of the constitution which means that the government can only do what the Constitution tells you that you can do as a government and that Congress was limited to powers specifically granted by Constitution. Also, the Federalists thought that the national government should have power over state governments while the Democratic Republicans believed that the state governments should hold more power than the national government.

Each party had different political figures that led them to the Federalist leaders Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, and John Adams. The democratic-republican leaders were Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Many of the supporters of each party came from a certain region of the U.S. mainly federalist supporters were from the north while democratic republicans were from the south.
The Republicans and Federalists had many disputes over various topics. One of the most heated arguments took place while George Washington was president. Most Federalists chose to support Great Britain, while Republicans decided to support France.
